Fujitsu N3510 or Sony FS-series???

Im looking into notebooks because Im heading out to college, only problem is that I cant decide which laptop to get. Ive set my mind on these 2 so far, but I just cant decide which of the 2 is a better buy. What really pulled me in were the DVD burners and great LCD screens, but since Im not judging my decision on those 2 things because they both have them. I was wondering which of the 2 perform better overall. People seem to complain alot with the Sony, which leans me toward the Fujitsu (I also think it looks better and has a stronger feel).
I need some opinions, they cost about the same, and Im leaning toward the N3510, is that the better buy?? (Im just not that good at reading all the computer hardware talk, too many abbreviations and numbers) Please help, thanks.

Never get the FS series. You'll regret! The performance is bad for the FS series. Get Fujitsu!

I actually purchased the FS550 before settling on to my P7010.

Here are the problems, which I had to return my first unit for an exchange and asked for a refund on the second unit:

1. I thought the first unit was defective since it produces a hissing, high-pitched, high frequency noise on the right side of the unit. The noise goes away when the backlight is set to maximum (which I can't stand in a quiet dark room because the screen is too bright and when I set the brightness less than maximum, I could hear the high-frequency noise)

2. I exchanged the first unit for a second one, and the problem still exists with the high pitched noise. It appears that the noise comes from the right side of the keyboard. I tried contacting Sony support and they described this as "normal operation". So I decided to live with it, and 2 days later, the screen isn't as bright as it used to be (the screen doesn't gain up when I set the brightness from minimum to maximum). I decided to get a refund.

3. My two FS550 units that I exchanged and refunded were made in China... compared to other Sony VAIO's which are made in Japan.

4. No S-VIDEO out!!! I can't believe the engineers missed that feature!!!

5. Too much software preinstalled with the Sony (ie. AOL free trial? Norton? Spy Subtract? WTF? Waste of space....)

6. The Sony doesn't provide you with recovery disks, and the AC adapter is a brick.

7. The customer service sucks. Period.

I would never buy a Sony again. I have to admit though, I loved the FS550 because of its style and the screen was gorgeous.... when it's wasn't defective.

I can't speak for your particular model of the Fujitsu that you're considering, but all I can say is the Crystalview screen is gorgeous, comparable to the Sony, but not too blindingly bright. I also heard that Fujitsu's achieved quality status as IBM notebooks, see here:

thanks alot thaisweetie and jsis. secondary opinions are all i needed. Im glad i didnt get that Sony notebook - I dont think I could live with a screen set to the highest brightness all the time. And thanks for pointing out the downsides to the Sony jsis, I bought the N350 the very next day after I found out the downsides (school starts soon so the decision had to be made). And no s-video?!!? For me, S-video is a must because my brother has a C Series fujitsu with S-video and we plug it into our TV all the time to watch MLB.com games, movies...the limits are endless! its such a great feature! Im very satisfied with this laptop, thanks for the opinions!
