So i just installed BF 2....yes i crash all air vehicles

Are these good video setting for an XPS 2 or too good:

1600x1200 @ 60 Hz

everything high
100% distance
2xAA

Should i enable 4xAA or no AA?
AA is used to smooth out edges right?

Should i enable EAX with the sound options or disable it?
What is EAX?

And should i choose hardware or software to render the sound?

Mine's 1600x1200, all medium, 2x AA...only 1 gig ram.

If you have a sound card, specifically Creative i think, you can enable the EAX. If not, unclick it and use software to render.

I run 1920x1200, no AA, 16x AF, medium settings, Dynamic light and shadows set to medium, effects set to low. Looks and runs perfectly.

Last time I checked (although it's been a while), BF2 didn't support widescreen.

Well, I run it at the max resoulution it allows me or whatever...

High Everything/100% View/4AA
Run's perfectly.. slight lag on bad servers.

And that's with a 6800go (slightly OC'd)..

It doesn't. I'm forcing that resolution.

And before someone asks OMG HOW DID YOU DO that... right click your BF2 shortcut and make your target look like this.

"E:\Games\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200
post #7 of 26
shoman how's the aspect ratio when you do that? is it distorted? are scopes/radar oval shaped, or circles as they should be?
its the way it should be with that shortcut
post #9 of 26
Just tried the +widescreen 1 part already had the +szx +szy and the radar still looks oval.

BF2 doesn't support widescreen, you are going to strech no matter what res you use (including the in game ones).

It's sad and annoying that BF2 doesn't support widescreen. At least HL2 supports the widescreen modes. heck they support 4:3, 16:9, 16:10. More game studios should follow suit. Does the extra field of view ingame really give that much of an advantage to us? Perhaps but we take the hit by having to render more. But really wider FOV isn't going to help much in a fast paced game. Closeup you could see the guy just the same as a 4:3 far away sure you'd see more but how the heck are you gonna hit something so far away? Sniper sure I guess but heck I can't hit s**t with the sniper in BF2. My mouse seems to move in blocks (not smooth between movements) I can never get a perfect target. Anyone else have that prob?

the only reason you can run at High is cause you got 2 gigs ram, otherwise you'd be at Medium/Low, just letting ya know.

get Logitech 518 gaming grade mouse , also try scaling down mouse sensetivity to 30 or 40

Congrats on the new system. Come play with us: www.davejbaker.com/xps2 .

We will have a Game Daemons server based out of Chicago up on Friday.

I just bought a Logitech 510 for cheap. It was on sale and came to 30$ CAD. My friend works at best buy and was like uh at cost we get those at 38$ so they were actually loosing money on them so I just had to buy one. Mouse sensitivity to 30-40? Huh where? Is that percentage of the slider bar under the mouse properties?

I got everything on max at 1920x1200 except shadows disabled because their bugyness annoys me. It runs great and I dont notice any distortion from the widescreen.

Take a look at the map HUD... that should be a perfect circle.

I tryed to put it in 1920x1200 by doing that target thing, so i entered the game but at video options nothing was changed, it still said 1600x1200, i will try later.

Is there a way to see your fps while playing? Cause i want to test settings.

Once BF2 has launched it seems like you don't need the BF2 dvd anymore. It's annoying that the dvd is always spinning at low speed, it doesn't make sound or vibrate or anything but i don't want to wear my drive out.
Can i just put the dvd back in the case after the game has launched or are there other solutions to this dvd problem.

Also, i don't see much or no difference between 1400x1050 at 4xAA and 1600x1200 and 2xAA....is this normal or do is my eyesight gone bad.

A crack can be downloaded that lets you not use the cd, although it must be changed for every patch, and bf 2 will be patched alot... and the resolution wont change in the menu, you just have to assume it changed

Mine says 1024x768, but it's definitely 1920x1200. Once again...it's not supported by default.

I run at 1920x1200 of course, and I have everything set to high (except texture filtering which is set to medium and AA which is off), view scale 100%. Everything is smooth until I get lots of particle effects on the screen, usually caused only by artillery. It doesn't get in the way of gameplay since artillery blows me up if I'm close enough to see those particle effects.
