Call Dell and tell them they made a mistake.

I got my os disc after the fact as well. When I checked my account there was a charge for it too. However I believe there was a remark there that the amount was to be adjusted and paid by dell. I tried to check my account history today to help you out, but I got "Dell site is too busy to respond to your history request at this time" redirect.
Just call customer service and they should be able to help. BTW, it now cost $10 to order a os disc when you configure your lappy.

thanks, but if anyone have gotten an os disc recently please check your order history and tell me what it says.

that's probably an internal reference code, since my payment method specified something similiar, and i wasn't charged...

I've often heard that when they used to send out free Win XP CD's upon request, they'd put that charge on your account, but you'd never have to end up paying for it (they'd pay for it themselves or something). They're probably still doing the same thing.

Yep, you don't have to pay. The only reason Dell does that is for tracking purposes. My rep even told me to ignore any billing information on the CD's. I recently got my CC bill and there was no mention of the CD's. Just the lappy order.

I think that Dell are so dumb for not just including it. We get them by default over here in australia.

Sounds like the 4200/5400RPM HDDs! Some get, some don't!

If your lappy shipped after July 15th you don't get them.

However, just email tech support saying you can't create them. Which is what I did after searching around on here and the dell site. I emailed the tech @ 10pm Monday, told them I followed all the included directions on the paper disc / web site / maunual yet still couldn't create one (no application found). Had a wonderful default form reply from Harjeev saying I needed to try to go to my start bar, blah blah blah.. I'm like no shiat Harjeev. Anyway, they (XP cd and Media cds) were sent out Tuesday @ 1pm, going to arrive today from DHL Second Second Day delivery

I called Dell on last Thursday at 5pm and asked for a cd, it arrived at my office Friday at 10am. I live in central Florida and it came from Texas. Yesterday the rep I talked to called my cellphone to make sure I got the cd's and they worked properly. I am very impressed with the quick responses.

Yep, I asked a tech for my CD on the 18th, and just checked my order status. There is a charge for $11.61 on my account for an "exchange," just as the original post mentions. I guess I'll call them, or ignore it and see what happens.

....just out of curiosity, does anyone know if that $10 os cd that is offered from Dell website when I configure my new notebook order include everything like all drivers etc? Can I assume everything is included for a complete "and easy" recovery installation? Thanks

I haven't got one but it be safe to assume that everything is included on the CD. Isn't Dell marketing them as restore CD's?
