Swaping Optical Drive

Hello, I have a Gateway 400SD4 laptop from three years ago, and I've run into some problems with the optical drive. I've decided to replace it with a new model, and I'm wondering about any compatibility issues that might exist.

Here are the specs for the computer itself (I have the 14.1" model): http://support.gateway.com/s//Mobile...501385nv.shtml

And these are the specs for the QSI SBW-241 drive that came with the machine:

I can post pictures of the drive component if required.

I'd like to replace the drive with a Panasonic UJ 845B slotload drive:

I'm aware that the faceplate will be different and that I would end up with a gap, which is acceptable as long as the replacement drive actually functions. Any information would be appreciated.

You should be good to go.

The original drive doesn't state whether it was configured as Master or Slave. Which should I select?

Depends on the laptop, but it's probably supposed to be the master on the secondary. If it doesn't work in one mode, set it to the other. You won't break anything if you get it wrong.

Does anyone know if any of those would fit in a M680? this QSI drive they put in there is a hunk of shit. My friend's old NEC in his Inspiron 8600 burns faster to DVD-R discs and is over a year and a half older
