Great machine. Bought in April after looking at the Sager 8887 and deciding to steer clear of it after I had some serious doubts over quality.
This VAIO is extremely fast (P4M 1.8 GHZ, 512MB, upgraded to 60GB 5400RPM drive), battery life great for such a big machine - 2 hours plus and no sign of any performance drop after 78 recharge cycles.
And that screen... not a single dead or stuck pixel.
OK, graphics card is only a Radeon 7500 32 MB, but it's good enough for most 3d games if you're not a big games freak like me. It's own little cooling fan means that it NEVER overheats or slows down, even if running a game at 1600x1200x32 for hours.
Build quality is EXCELLENT. That metal lid is soooo solid, the hinges are extremely durable, and the plastic underneath the paint on the case is the same shade of grey, albeit not metallic. Scratches and wear therefore barely show.
Not a single software or hardware problem since I began, in fact not a single issue despite having used it 10 hours a day every day since I bought it, and having plugged in every kind of peripheral, burned over 100 CDs and watched 3 or 4 DVDs a week.
OK, no infrared, but that problem was solved pronto with a little IR dongle for about $25.
I'm VERY glad I went for this machine.
