700m arrived yesterday- Initial Thoughts

My 700m arrived yesterday and overall I am happy with it. I had some buyer's remorse after I placed my order. A trip to the local Dell kiosk to see the notebook in peson helped calm me down, but I still felt uneasy until I had mine in my hands.

I was worried about the screen being too small or too glossy but I love it. It is so clear and sharp. I am quite pleased. I've got a touch of light leakage along the bottom. I noticed this during the initial Windows setup. Once Windows was loaded it seemed like a non-issue because of the start menu and bar along the bottom.

My biggest gripe with the 700m has to do with the touchpad buttons. The buttons feel cheap and they rattle if you just barely touch them. I wish there was a way to change them out for something nicer.

Stupid moment of the day- I was browsing the web and kept hearing a click whenever I followed a link to a different page. I was convinced something was wrong with the computer, until I realized the clicking sound was part of the default sound configuration. Had to get rid of that!

So far I am happy with my purchase. I called Dell this afternoon and a Windows CD is on the way so I can reformat with a clean install. I bought this with the $750 off coupon so my total came to $790 with shipping and tax. Whenever I star to obsess about the cheap buttons I will remind myself that I got a good notebook computer at a great price.

Wow, that's quite a deal. You got your hands on the 750 off 1499 coupons, I assume. What're the specs?

Curious, since my sister is considering a 700m.

These are the specs I remember off the top of my head:

1.6ghz
60gb hard drive (80gb was not an option with the $750 off)
512 ram
8x DVD+/-RW

My goal was to come in under $800 and I did.

Congrats!! I got my 700m about 2 weeks ago and I love it. What makes it sweeter is that I'm in Canada yet I was able to jump on the EPP 750off deal too.

I managed to get my total to come to $780 after free shipping and tax.

Specs are:

What is the tape mod?

Oh, does it have something to do with the touchpad buttons?
i believe it is to put support under the buttons of the touchpad to make it more sturdy, so yes

Thats what I thought. There was a similar thing for the trackstick buttons for the 8600 (before dell removed the trackstick in the 8600b/c)
