Need a good Barebones suggestion...

Thread Starter
I have been planning on getting either a Dell 9300 or 6000d for the past month and a half or so, but I came along a couple problems, I'm not sure if I can afford a decent 9300, and the 6000d can only support up to a x300...

So my question for you guys is, What is a good barebones alternative that could possibly keep the price as close to or lower than $1300 when completed?

Thanks a lot.

EDIT: Just checked out www.coboc.com and I see an ASUS Z71V... It has pretty much everything I am looking for, 6600 and WSXGA+. So does anyone have any experience with this notebook? And how much should I expect to pay to have a decent gaming/school notebook?

I have this laptop and it is awesome. Some people compain about the screen, but you can get used to it really easily.

This is the one I ordered: http://istnc.com/store/products.php?cat=119, except for mine has the 1.86 P-M because I bought it before intel's price drop. This back to school special is 1699 and it comes with free shipping and a 3 year warranty . The laptop is pretty big though. It's not humongous like a 17 incher, but I don't think I am going to be taking this laptop to classes too often.

ISTNC is great, they are really helpful and friendly.

z71v is a pretty nice barebones unit. screen issues dont show up when u game and only show on solid color backgrounds. u could probably assemble one with parts at a very decent price. there's also a z70v.

I just got a Z70V and it is fricken awesome! Super quality and design and brilliant screen. I configured a similar Dell Latitude D810(same GPU and stuff) and I saved $1300! I don't think you'll be able to make under $1300 with any notebook with a decent GPU .

I don't want to sound like a proponent for Compal, but they do make a lot of laptops for Dell, so here goes.

I think you can get a Compal DL70 with the X600 decently configured for about $1300 (or bare for around $800-$850). It's a 15.4" WSXGA laptop weighing about 6.3 lbs. Option for a built in TV tuner. google it, lots of places offer it barebones. I got my prices from ISTNC.com.

If you want smaller, you can get the Compal FL30 (Chembook 2030) very nicely configured for about the same price with a 2 year warranty from discountlaptops.com.
It's a 14.1" WXGA P-M platform, 6400go GPU, 5lbs, good battery life, bigger battery option, runs cool. Built in web-cam.
