I'm back to this forum for more advice on laptops. lol BTW this site is very informative and has a very friendly atmosphere.

Okay heres I go.

A friend of mine is going to college soon and she is wondering what kind of laptop to get. I told her to get an Asus but i dont know what kind since theres so many, but I've heard good reviews about them.

She needs it to be portable, long battery life, good screen like X-Brite, pretty much along the lines of a Sony S-360. Also low heat is a big plus.

What would you guys recommend?

TIA

Edit:
Almost forgot about the programs like Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.
Are they included or do you have to buy them? I know on the Sony's you only have a limited trial of these programs.

WOW!! that was really fast lol

Thanks I will look into it

Edit again:
Where is the best place to get an Asus?

ISTNC , Geared2Play , or ProPortable , are the most common around here as all three have excellent service and competitive pricing.

Through my university I can get Windows for $3.60 and Office 2003 for $4.25. Getting the software shouldn't be a problem for a college student.

www.istnc.com is my suggestion

Check out the sticky at the top of the Asus Main page called "Asus Reseller by state".

Thanks everyone, I'm going to see if she gets this one. If she does i will be sure to tell you guys.

BTW, Fishmanpet

If I may ask, how can you get the software so cheap? My cousin took a look at her university and it wasn't that cheap.

Thanks!

most universities have deals with microsoft and other big names (adobe/macromedia, etc) and can offer the software at really good deals. make sure she checked at the university computer store or maybe even within her own college at uni.

Yup, I would also highly recommend the Z63A, as long as she doesn't need a video card. Bought mine from ISTNC - great people.

I recommend looking at the Z63a at www.geared2play.com Their prices are really low, and their service (thus far...just ordered mine last night) has been extremely quick (email/forums, etc).

Like swcaps said, each university is different, so prices could be higher or lower (more likely higher) for her depending on her university and what the arangement is.
