Weird Booting Problems

Help! My computer is giving me this weird occasional boot-up problem(s).

The first problem is that my 9860 will often not start up. The blue light on the power button lights up, no fans, and the DVD does not "whir" up. No BIOS, no screen start-up, no Windows. I can't even get the DVD drive to open by pressing the button. My conclusion is that power is not running to HD and DVD drives.

Now here's the weird part. If I lay the 9860 flat on its screen, like I was tilting the keyboard up so that the LCD is parallel to the table and the keyboard is perpendicular and press the power button, everything starts up. Something loose? I don't dare open the chasis up to peek. Any ideas?

The second problem is about half the time I start the computer up, my IntelPRO Wireless 2200BG card is not found by WinXP. Once I restart the computer, it is found. I'm running the latest IntelPRO software which is the 9.0.1.0 because the original software that came with the 9860 was also giving me the same problem.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give!

Does the light stay blue when you have the power problem ?

Yeah, the blue light stays on the power button. Even the 3 green lights under the LCD turn on. I can't remember clearly, but I think the light for the card drives also turns on. Not the number lock light.

The next time it happens, try to connect a Monitor/LCD to see if anything shows on that. But it really sounds like something is loose. It might not be user fixable.

It is the exact same thing as my 9880 see my thread in this forum

Mine never turns on anymore though (Only 1 week old!!!). I am not going to bother to see if it turns on if I hold it at a wierd angle. I spent a s**t load of money and this thing should work like a dream.

I have to go the the ups store tomorrow to ship this POS back. Wonderful Sager payed for a ground shipping label so who knows when the will get it and how long it will take for me to get my new one.

At this point I completly regret going with a Sager.

I have a similar issue. I removed the battery and everything works perfectly everytime now. I presume I have something loose, can't send it back right now as need for some presentations. Let me know if this works for you.

Thanks guys. I've actually tried taking out the battery and putting it back in. Doesn't really help. Sorry coneco your experience with Sager has been tainted. But after spending this much money, you have the right to be upset. I'm kind of lucky in that I live about 30 minutes away from Sager, so I can take it down, which is what I may have to do. Oh well. Thank again everyone for the input.
