Well, they have to end of next week to ship or I'll be building myself.
Rang up today and got the secretary again, very dodgy indeed! I'm awaiting a callback to see if it has shipped or it will be cancellation time.

Hmm, I'm told now that the computer has been built - but now it's awaiting the CDRW. (Last week I was waiting on the motherboard and video cards)

I honestly don't know whether to believe them or not, but we will see what happens in a few days.

Don't give up!!! I need the moral support. ( Mine is supposedly waiting for a new drive as well...can't imagine they are that difficult to find...let's just hope all will be right when they get here)

Yes, you do have a lot more patience to me! I'm not sure I could have lasted as long as you

Here's hoping it ships this week , I told them I would call back on Thursday. Who would have thought we would be waiting on an optical drive?

Today is Thursday - called back, still waiting the optical drive. I am told that they might have come in and it could ship today or tomorrow. Tomorrow is the 9/16/2005, my promised cancellation date if it hadn't shipped, so we'll see what happens.

Hang in there! Mine arrived yesterday - I set it up last night and all seems to be well. Only had time to test it with Solitaire . Will do more this weekend.

Note that my original Sony DVD R/W drive was replaced with an LG model...so the part about replacing the opt drive was factual. I have to say that they have been pretty good about giving me the scoop - it was just the long periods of silence that had me nervous.

When you get it, and assuming everything is working, I know you'll love it. Our only fear will be ever having to send it back again...

I'm glad to see yours arrived! That gives me hope that mine might ship today or tomorrow.

Solitaire? Blow off work and load up some Battlefield 2!

I hope we never have to send it back, I think I would get them to send me the parts and replace it myself to avoid the long delays, yours was sent back in June right?

Yep - mine went back in June. But there were a couple of issues. First - we fought for a few weeks over the fact that I had it checked out at a local computer store (because I could not get anyone to answer the phone at AW...and wanted to make sure it wasn't a user issue). Once we cleared up that they would honor the warranty, the main tech was sick for a couple of weeks, then a delay on replacing a faulty 6800GT card. Then I decided to go ahead and upgrade to the 7800GTX cards - might as well get some kick for the wait. Then there was the issue with replacing the DVD drive...and then, it arrived. The good news is, without me asking, AW Australia did extend my warranty by 3 months.

My experience is probably not typical, and hopefully they've worked out their start-up problems.

Latest update..

AW rang my house on friday (first time having them contact me rather then the other way around).. the last part of my system (the optical drive) should be delivered to them on monday (this is what sony told to them).

So they have told me to expect it to ship on monday or tuesday. I hope it comes this week, because i'm going on holidays the week after.. (knowing my luck it will arrive the first day of my holidays).

Incidently, I ordered a Dell 24" LCD (2405FPW) on Friday as well, the good news is that it shipped on Saturday, so I will probably receive it early this week too (probably before the AW). You can say what you like about Dell, but they do have a very good supply chain.

Cool - the 24" LCD will be sweet.

(Note - I originally had a Sony DVD RW drive. When the issue of replacement came up, I said "put whatever you can get" in, and now have the LG. Probably explains why mine came last week)

Did they tell you what was wrong with your system? Was it the DVD RW ?

Primary issue was faulty vid card. They didn't find a problem with the opt drive til they were ready to ship (I hadn't had any problems with it). The only problem I'm having now is the fans are very loud. Will be interesting to see how yours is. Haven't tried to optimise.

I checked out one at harvey norman that didn't seem too loud.. do you have yours on the desk or on the ground? And did you get the padding inside the case?

Mine is currently on the desk - but will be moving it, I imagine. Acoustic dampening was not an option when I placed the original order. Note that it was not this loud when I first got it, so don't know if it is the 7800 cards. They may also have replaced a fan - not sure. I'll give them a call if I can't quiet it down. I generally use noise cancelling headphones, so it won't be a huge issue.

It arrived today, and so far everything is working perfectly, I took a bunch of photo's so a review is coming tomorrow!
