Battlefield 2 & 1920x1200 ?

Does Battlefield 2 support this resolution? I see a few people talking about running BF2 in 1920x1200 but when I access the options menu in the game, it only shows 3 different options: 800x600, 1024x800, and 1600x1200.

How do I enable the 1920x1200 option, or are the people speaking about it full of it?

Thanks.

You're a huge help.

It came up empty.

Actually it came up with the search dialogue box, in that search box type: "battlefield 2 widescreen"

LOL just stick this in your shortcut target line. widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200

or substitute whatever size rez you want.

google "widescreen gaming". there's forums dedicated to getting games to go widescreen. I've tried the shortcut change, some registry hacks, and even reinstalled a few times, but I can't get it to go to 1920 x 1200.

Might be a stupid question, but do you hae the WUXGA (1920x1200) or WXGA+ (1440x900) screen?

For details on widescreen gaming, check out the Widescreen Gaming Forum

Greg, you're trying for the rez change in BF2 I assume? It's the shortcut piece I put up. There is no true widescreen for BF2 it just stretches the image to whatever size you want in the +szx +szy. It doesn't show up under the video options. So you want to select your level of detail first. Exit the game and then put in that shortcut piece and reload it. It doesn't say but it will be running at the resolution you wrote in the shortcut. You can test this by putting it at 1024x768 and opening the consol and typing. Note the size of the text. Then do the shortcut at a higher res and load the console and note the size of the text.

Yeah, i totally understand how that works. When i start the game with any custom size in the shortcut target, it shows the splash screens, then crashes to desktop when the menu should load. On Widescreen Gaming forum, it looks like maybe 30-40% of people have this prob, no matter what they do, it won't go to the 1920 x 1200 rez. I then tried changing the video options manually using the default and custom profiles in my documents/bf2 folder, but that ctd's as well.. :-( Whenever i have dynamic shadows on, they're in the wrong place too. wierd. so i turned them off. I'm using hte 80.40 drivers, anyone else had this prob?

You guys are the coolest. I read every page of the widescreen gaming forum, tried everything they suggested, and it never worked. but i used Baraka's shortcut, and it finally worked! I don't know what I was doing wrong before, but it's working now. beautiful!

OK, new question to keep this thread going. I downloaded a mod called Mercenaries (really cool single player mod), but can't get it working fullscreen. tried "+widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200 +modPath mods/mercs" It ctd's right after the splash screens.

Hey greggmattersen2

Can you go into more detail step by step how you got the 1920 x 1200 to work.

I would greatly apreciate it

OK, off a fresh install, you right click on the Battlefield 2 shortcut on the desktop. It should say in the target field - "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

I changed mine to -
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1920 + szy 1200

When you double click it, your game will open up and be in 1920 x 1200 mode. The menu screens and 2D graphics will be stretched (map, kit selection screen, etc), but in the game the models and players will be correct. This method cuts a bit off the top to fill in the sides, so it's actually a slight disadvantage, but i like it better.

In your options screen, it will still display your old resolution, but you can change options like quality settings and antialiasing. I've heard that it's better to use NVidia's options for antialiasing with this resolution, but haven't tried it yet.

PM me if you have any more questions! thanks!

Greg, if your mod isn't running in fullscreen try changing from +widescreen 1 to +fullscreen 1. That might make it work the way you want it. As for cutting off the top and bottom of the screen I haven't noticed. I don't actually think it does. It may but whatever I've been playing with it so long it doesn't really seem to matter. If it cuts off some it's very little to make a differance.

Yeah that was the point of it. Learn to use the search function is what he's trying to give you the message of.

I understand that, and I used the search function. It came up empty, like I stated in my previous 2 posts...
