I did a clean install and now i am a little worried about ever needing to restore to original settings. I deleted the E partition. Should i worry some more or will i be ok?

Assuming you made a Dell CD you won't need the restore partition. If you're that worried, get Acronis TrueImage or Ghost.

You only need that partition if you want to restore the system back to its original from factory settings. I always use my own install, my own programs and settings so I don't really worry about it. I use the dell install for about 6 months and then just reinstall myself after that. Nothing like a fresh install of XP in the morning!

Not sure of the exact size but that sounds about right. Its always funny to when you get your new computer from dell about 10GB or so of space is gone and its all filled with demos and useless stuff you can't see anyways.

You can reclaim some of that space by reformatting and deleting things but do so at your own risk. Basically make sure you know how to reinstall everything. Its very basic on how to do that but if your comfortable with it go for it, otherwise you might want to get someone to help you the first time. Its really nothing though to install windows, collecting the drivers is harder but dell offers downloads for your pc online and just make sure you have all the data and programs you want and your good to go!

my XPS gen 2 comes without the invisible partition, i try to find with fdisk and with partition magic 8.0 and 8.02 and it doesn't exist.

i think it is not a problem if you have of the cd's that dell use to send.

i received the eindows MCE 05 and dell ultilities, dell software and other that i can'y remenber now.

Is there a decent free alterntive to Norton Ghost? I'm a little hesitant to install Norton products on my new system. They worked great for me...until you try to uninstall them. I want to keep my new baby as clean as possible.

If you stick with the version that runs outside of Windows in DOS there would be no reason to install the version that runs within Windows.
