Disappointed with my Z71v

I received my Z71V back in April. I was very impressed with the notebook overall. After about a month ocasionally the screen on the notebook would not turn on when I booted it up. Well it didn't happen enough to really bother me, it would always come on after the second atempt anyway.
Well, then it the screen would turn off everytime while I was using it. I called the Asus tech. and he had me send the notebook back so he could fix it, which I did, well after I got the notebook back the screen would not come on at all. I called the technician again and he said that he would send me out a new memory and that should fix the problem. Well, I put the new memory in and the notebook worked for a couple of hours and the screen shut off and would not comeback on. Right now the notebook is back at Asus to get fixed again.

I guess I am just frustrated that I own a $2,000 laptop and I have been unable to use it for the past couple of months. Did anybody else have similar problems with there Z71v or did I just get a lemon?

I've had a couple instances where the screen would not turn on during bootup, however I just assumed it was a software issue due to the fact that it always worked on the second try. I think you're just having bad luck man... very few lemon asus' out there.

Try do a fresh install and reinstall the most updated drivers. It could be a bad ALS detection causing a fproblem.

Not an isolated incident sduff. I've had the same - screen not powering up on boot. It started off as sporadic, and then it become common. I would boot my laptop and the screen would not come on at all. It would do this ten times. If I came back an hour later, it may or may not do the same.

Recently however, it has been just fine - possibly because I've left it on my desk and not packed it in my bag or taken it anywhere.

Suggesting to update drivers is pretty unhelpful Smilepak. If the screen doesn't power up, but trying again a minute or an hour later it does, doesn't that suggest hardware to you?

My apologies if this is a dumb question, but when this happens, have you tried hitting Ctrl+F7 (LCD on/off)? Is it possible that it somehow just starts in the wrong position?

Yes, I tried it, but it still would not come on.

Just thought I would make an update about my situation. I just got the notebook back on the 18th. Asus said they had to install a new motherboard into it, and it was all covered by warranty. The notebook works good so far and hopefully it continues to do so.
