I just ordered my 6000d, and am ok with computers but have no idea on how to restore and get rid of the crap that Dell throws in the system. I don't want to delete manually but don't know how to restore the system. Can someone please give me a decent guide (not too confusing) on how to get rid of all the stuff before I use the computer. I also don't want to lose any important pre-loaded stuff that I will need later, so if anyone could tell me where and how to get that back once everything is deleted, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Once you received your PC, then uninstall all the unnecessary pre-loaded stuff.
When I got my Dell, I completely re-format the PC then install a clean WinXP without all the pre-loaded stuff, then install all the necessary softwares that came along with the computer that's it, makes my computer runs faster instead of running too many pre-loaded junk.

I think the McAfee CD should be with your system when you purchase the notebook. All you need is to get the Win XP disc itself you can either purchase or borrow as you've got the original product id, or you can use the CD that came with your notebook, my dell's XP cd is pure windows installation without any junk software, and after that you just need to install the software that you'll use.
When you reformat.... then you'll lose everything in the HDD.
Good luck... hope this helps

There's no hurry, take a couple of days to get familiar with the computer. Give yourself time to decide what you want to keep and what to get rid of. For example, when you reformat, you'll lose your DVD player and CD/DVD burner software, make sure you have replacement SW prior to reformatting.
You can uninstall some of the more irritating crap like AOL, Earthlink, the trial proggies, ect but be careful before dumping some of the Dell stuff before you know what it is. Be sure to burn your recovery CD before reformatting, that CD is absolutely the best method of cleaning up/reformatting your computer, it gives you a lean install of XP and the necessary drivers to get going.
