WinXP/Linux dual OS w/ shared partition

Is there a way to achieve that without the shared partition being FAT32? Also, what would be the best partition setup for a 100GB drive? 20(win)/20(linux)/60(common)?
Also, if installing such a setup, will using a partitioning program such as norton partitionmagic 8 give any additional benefits over partitioning with windows?
