Talking Ferrari 4005 Benchmarks (Gaming)

Had an initial dud unit, but received a replacement yesterday. Running Catalyst 5.8 mobility drivers, and using a SoundBlaster Audigy 2 soundcard. Also upgraded ram to 2 Gig.

CHeck out these scores, all based on real gameplay for about 15 minutes each.

Half-Life 2:
- 1680X1050 True Widescreen
- All details to high
- Averaging about 70 FPS, dipping to 50 FPS during intense action.
- Textures and detail looks amazing

Battlefield 2:
- Running 1280X960
- All details to Medium
- World Detail to High
- Maximum draw distance
- Averaging about 50 FPS on the co-op mod largest map with 32 players. Dips to about 30 with lots of explosions going on, but bounces back very fast.

Unreal Tournament 2004
- Running 1680X1050 True Widescreen
- All details maxed out, though with less complex shadows and medium decal retention.
- Draw distance and weather effects maxed
- Running at an average of 80-90 FPS, with very few dips of about 5-10 frames during big firefights.

Needless to say, I am VERY pleased. Simulated surround with the SoundBlaster works very well, allowing me to pinpoint enemy shots in BF2 very accurately. System upgrade to 2 Gigs of ram so now BF2 doesn't crash when too many bots are running around at once.

Will post Far Cry scores yet as I just intalled that, and will also run 3DMark and Aquamark sets as well.

Hope this helps anyone considering this unit. It rocks!

was it a pain in the ass to upgrade to 2 gigs of ram? i really am considering this unit (for college) but my rent wants me to build a tower... sadly she is the one paying the bill.

Im considering the 4002 what do you think worth it? I know it doesnt have all that 4005 has but im lookin for somethin cheaper like 4002. Do you think it will give me the similar graphics?

The video card is the same between the 4002 and 4005
but the CPU is noticeably slower, and am sure game results will be different
the LCD's resolution is also different between the 2 systems...
RAM and HD is the other difference, but shouldn't have too much of an impact on gaming

Question Heat issues?

I am wanting to buy one with 2GB ram and 60GB 7200RPM hard drive. Will be wanting to play WoW game for 4-6 hours at a time. Wondering if it will get too hot? Thanks for any input!

Was not hard to put in the ram, only took a few minutes. As far as heat goes, I have played BF2 for 3 hours straight and it is only a little warm, and certainly not hot at all. Air from the vent is toasty, but the palm rests remain confortable. VERY good for extended gaming.

Hmm... let's see... you said you get 70 fps in HL2... wtf?

I get around 30 maybe, even in smaller areas. Everything set to high, no AA, 1680 x 1050. Same as you.

I get high 2000's for 3DMark05 and that is pretty normal everything seems to be working. I have no idea what could cause that large of a jump in HL2 performance. I am using Cat 5.8s

I'd like to see some other people who've put in 2 Gs of RAM give us their numbers as well. Maybe some people with the TM8100s along with other Ferrari owners. If the jump is that major, I'll have to consider the upgrade.

Oh, and what 3dmark scores do you get, if you please?

I heard the 4005WLMi runs cool due to a high capacity cooling fan, I guess they oversized the cooling system of this notebook due to the extra high factory clocked X700 GPU. Also 3DMark05 should be higher than 2000.

That said, I'm really surprised of the high HL2 performance in 1680 x 1050. I would expect 30-40fps. But I wouldn't complain if I get 50-70! Maybe the high performance is due to 2GB RAM?

I'll post 3D Mark scores very shortly, just reinstalling them and patching them. As far as the updated benchmark scores goes, I'd have to guess that the increase in Ram would play a big part. My previous unit had 1GB and crashed all the time, and I upgraded this one on replacement, so I have not run it with just 1GB. I do know that compared to my desktop (which has 1GB) that Battlefield 2 can handle the Co-Op mod without issues over crashing due to too many bots. Since most games cache to the hard drive, having more ram means less of that, and more instant acess to resources = more speed.

Shadow, very nice. What are those 3dmark scores? Curiosity on my part is keeping me pretty interested. Been considering 2GB ram for a while.

hi,
Do you think that speed of RAM also matter, Shadow? whats your ram speed, I guess 400. But 4000 Series comes with 333 as default.
