- You will need to give me your old TM300 (type-b) card because I need that type-b connector - If you just want bluetooth working and want to keep your old TM300 (Bluetooth 1.1), I can solder the wires directly to the type-A pins on that card much like whk did it above to the TM350 - If you want to upgrade to the TM350 (Bluetooth 2.0), you will need to pay/buy for that card (~$13) and the small connecor cable (~$5). - The only feasable way to route the wires is through the bottom of the motherboard, above and below the speaker. You will need to open the laptop and install it yourself.

Sorry for chiming in so late to this thread -- I've been having the described probelms with my inspiron 600m, & dell has just been replacing the motherboard & bluetooth module each time.
Even though the system is under contract until 12/09, they've decided not to do so, & that I must send my system to "the depot" for them to evaluate whether it can be fixed -- if not, they won't return it, but will instead replace it with a "comparable system". Unfortunately, I'm required to use a security key which must be plugged into a parallel port-- and dell doesn't have any laptops w/parallel ports onboard... I'm terrible with a sodering iron, etc., although I can plug-n-play with disassembling / reassembling the computer... would you be willing to build another cable so I can perform your fix on my system? I've got the old TM300 module, and would happily reimburse you for the other ass'd parts required, as well as your time & effort to do so. Thanks. karl fasold |

Remove the hard drive before you send Dell the notebook - they won't need it. If you leave the HD installed, Dell will most likely send it back to you with the factory image restored on the HD.

Thanks for the suggestion -- figured I'd put the original 60m drive back in & keep my 160!

Hi There
I have a solution for someone who does not want to replace the Bluetooth adapter and is not so clued-up with soldering (like me) I removed the adapter and with a very sharp knife cut the plastic plug at an angle to slightly expose the connector pins, the plasitc is hard so only cut away thin slices at a time I then used the tip of the knife to gently bend the connectors towards eachother, the dongle will now fit snugly back on the motherboard, a good idea would be to use a bit of high density foam on each sire of the dongle to stop it from moving around to much. It's not a very complicates solution but works and if it happens again you can repeat step two |

Old thread...new post. I tried to make my own cable by soldering onto the old TM300 connector.... Complete dissaster!!! I can solder gauge 10 wires and copper pipe pretty well, but.... Anyway, are there any other options to get this old lappy to use the original BT connector?? Or is anyone still in th ebusiness of making these custom cables in their spare time?
If you are, PM me, please!! Thanks, Mike |
