DVD burning issue with my 9860
I've had a 9860 since February. Been very happy with it, but I'm starting to get more and more failed attempts at burning DVD's. I've had this happen about 25% of the time in the last month (maybe 4 failures out of 12 disks burnt).
My only guess is that I'm trying to pack too much on the disk. But, this last failure occurred when I was trying to burn 4.1 GB of info onto a 4.7 GB disk. I have an error report that I'm trying to email to the PCTorque help desk. Does anyone have a similar problem? Any potential fixes? Thanks! Dave |

Might just be that the media that you are using is not completely compatable with the DVD Burner. What media are you using?
Here is a site that has a tool to determine the "Real" Media codes, etc: http://www.dvd-recordable.org/wwwimg...opro/index.htm |

I think that it is a media issue. But I still have some questions. First, some more background. It sucks that I can't remember the media brand. I forget because it is a DVD that can be printed on by my injet printer, so there is no name brand on it. The funny thing is that I've used this media about 10 times before with no problem. Before, I was burning DVD video disks with a maximum size of ~3 GB. Today, I was trying to make a simple data disk with about 3.8 to 4.1 GB of files on it.
I tried 4 disks and each one failed. I then switched to a Memorex media and it worked 6 times in a row. So, I'm concluding that it is a media issue. Here are my questions: Could the bad media be OK for burning DVD video files, but not other computer files? Or, could the media be OK for burning ~3 GB, but not 4 GB? Thanks, Dave PS, I was born in Omaha!! Go Cornhuskers! |

Please PM me and let me know what you bought and where you bought it. There really aren't that many printable media. Include the speed of the media as that matters. Maybe I can steer you to some more reliable media at a decent price. I consume about 5,000 DVDs a year in lots of 300/600 and have had good/bad luck with a variety of media.
As far as buying bulk media and finding that the first few work or don't work and then condition changes as you get into the bundle - it happens, more often that you would suspect or desire. I once bought a 300 bundle from a place (OPTTIODISC800R Media Codes) and they were pure crap for the 1st 50 or so and then after than they were very good. Please download the DVD-INFO PRO and provide the "Media Type" code. This utility will display it even if the disc has been written to. Edit: I want to say: Go Coach --- a long way away from the Cornhusker State. |
