Thank you for your suggestion Richk. I broke a lot of connectors myself I'll think about it. I just started couple days ago.
Buy the way, I replace Toshiba optical drives almost every day, but I never had a problem with drives they send to us. I never had to configur it. Just replace the drive and it works fine.

Hi,
I have a toshiba a105 and bought a new dvd burner (uj-850). However, it doesnt work, the laptop sees the drive but the drive doens read anay cd or dvd. I read that I have to set the drive to slave. How do I do that...
thanks a lot

saugen48 has a few people on his/her side.
You cant, they come pre-set.
Most of the optical drives on the market come as Cable select but most Toshiba laptops will only work with them as master. This place sells them as either cable select, slave or master. You are looking for the Toshiba ones with master at the end of the string

You said that you replace optical drives all the time. I have a Toshiba A35-S159 and I need to replace the drive. Do you have any instruction or pictures. I am not sure what I will get intowhen I start taking the screws out.

Thanks

I just joined the forum because I want to add memory to my new Toshiba A200 and wasn't sure what to open up. Your self-help site would have been even more helpful if you had a photo of the entire underside of the computer, indicating which section contains the memory modules. That's really what I need to know! I can take out the old memory and put in the new memory in the same way, and Kingston's package gives instructions. But what section to unscrew? I hope when I check the underside your photo will have been enough. However, I'm glad I joined up -- since a search did not turn anything up to help me change the memory modules.

If you get the drives from Toshiba for the particular laptop, it will work fine. If you buy a generic drive over the internet, (including the ones made by Toshiba), it is much cheaper, but it comes cable-select, which is what most manufacturers use. Most of the Toshibas need the drive to be set to master (usually by firmware), except the machines that have removable bays. Those usually need the drive to be set to slave. BTW, I believe that many of the generic drives made by toshiba drives will also function as slaves. The 2 choices for firmware are Master or either slave or CS.

Use the guide for the M55. All you have to do is carefully remove the KB retainer strip and lift the keyboard.

You are right. I get all my drives from Toshiba under warranty. That's why I've never had a problem.
