Thumbs down Sticky: Avoid This Seller At All Costs!!!!!!!

Hi all.

I was recently ripped off by a seller on this board. I am not bashing the boards, or holding them responsible...this is a great place to buy/sell/trade and just generally chat.

I am simply warning anyone out there about this seller.

USER NAME: arnio
email: golfman20005@yahoo.com
PayPal: golfman20005@yahoo.com

He approached in a Private Message, stating that he had an XPS Gen 2 to sell. Naturally, I was interested.

After many PMs, we worked out a deal. He even took pics of his item with his user and my user name written on an index card and placed on his laptop.

Our deal was that I was to send him $350, the max insurable amount by PayPal, so if I got ripped off I could get my money back.

I sent him the $350, and now one week and 10 emails later, he has not responded to me. He took my money and ran. PayPal is investigating and I'll probably recover the funds, but still. He ripped me off!

If he approaches anyone else via PM....RUN!

THanks

paypal is only good for transactions under 100 dollars.. I have seen so many people getting ripped off through paypal. I myself was a victim of 500 dollars. Good luck getting your money back!!!

unless you were smart to have paid with credit card through paypal, you can kiss that money good bye. Paypal SUCKS.

What I would do is contact his local PD if you have his address info or contact trollhunters.com

Oh so true. I just don't see why people don't use their credit card, paypal will not protect you.

I use either my debit card or credit card for high dollar transaction. My debit card has a protection like a credit card. I once had a bad transaction, called my bank and they got my money back. Paypal was not too happy with me

Contact your/his nearest FBI or authorities.

Here's a few links I think should intrest you,

"How I sued Paypal"
Internet fraud complaint center

Good Luck.

for high dollar items, I would not send money up front to people with no heatware neither. Ebay feedback does not mean a thing because I have been scammed by a seller with 500+ feedback. The guy never sent me the laptop and I paid in full the same day the auction ended. Guess he will get a call from the local authorities or the FBI soon.

Yeah, Best of luck to you. Its good that you used a credit card, because you can definately get your money back. Don't go through paypal, just call the phone number on the back of your card. My bank even has it down to an automated service. You call them, push a few numbers, input a transaction number, then record a message... they always get back to me quickly. Check the back of your card... if its a debit card from a bank (with credit features), even better.
Also, don't let this discourage you from ever trusting again. For every scammer out there... there's at least ten good people. Just, those scammers tend to leave a bigger hole... so there ~appears~ to be more of them.

Sorry to be off topic but to SirBA, WOW you go through alot of machines do you find you don't like a machine or just just have a short attention span(lol). Back to on topic are you buying and selling alot on this forum, 'cause if you are you could probably be someone who could be counted on to give good references and feedback.

yes, do what he said. I was stupid to followed Ebay's steps for reporting non-receipt items. I then filed with paypal and won the dispute. Well, of the $592 that I sent to the guy, I got $175 back from paypal (from Ebay guarantee you get $200-$25 processing fee when you have a >$500 loss). Despite I filed for chargeback, it was denied by paypal since they "already refunded me $175". WTF? My bank told me there was nothing they can do. Anyway, I'm after the seller for the rest of my money now by filing with ic3.com. Hope to get my money back.
