9300 Total Conversion with 6800 Ultra

So all the talk about the 7800 being out really made me want to get my laptop upgraded to at least the second best card out there, so I ordered a 6800 Ulta from Dell. It took Dell two weeks to send me out the card which was enough time for me to decide I didnt like the white trim on my laptop so I decided to also follow Dellbert's instructions:

http://www.notebookforums.com/forums...ht=black+white

and order me the black palm rest and LCD Bezel.

The palm rest came which I liked so I ordered the hinge cover. Then a day later I found the XPS2 steel lid on ebay for $25 shipped and the white trim was really bugging me so I ordered that also.

As you can see my 9300, is sort of now a XPS2... actually I dont know what it is anymore.

At first I tried using the leather quick snap I had on the XPS2 lid and it did fit, it wasnt perfect but It would of stayed on. Not to mention the XPS logo's on the lid did not glow and looked a little dull.

I really liked the XPS 2 stelel lid and decided to see if I could could get the XPS logo's to glow so I removed the LED's from the XPS logo's on the steel lid which lets the screens' light make the XPS logo's glow a purple white color.

Very nice if you ask me.

And the logos glow!!!!!!

Just today I recieved my 6800 Ultra from Dell installed it and it works great I scored a 5336 out of the box.

So my question is now what is my laptop is it and XPS2, or a 9300 that looks and performs like an XPS.

The card was $350 that my work (hopefully) pays for, and all the parts for the body was $155, and the XPS Northbridge heatsink was $13 shipped. So that brings me up to around $1,557 for the whole system.

I also saw a 6800go sell for $295 on Ebay yesterday so If I want to sell my 6800go I can make most of the money back for the card.

Holy crap that's a good deal. I'd buy a 6800Ultra and put it in too if it's design didn't suck (heating and power requirements). Good work though, you really do have an XPS2 for at least $500 cheaper.

awesome man... reminds me of that 9100 vs. xps fiasco.... looks like some of those xps2 owners are going to be pissed..... any chance of you posting a detailed tutorial (with pics ) on how to do the flash and the other steps for the mod ?... some of the stuff posted here on the subject are scattered and hard to understand for some of us who are "technologically challenged".............
oh yeah, one question.... if an xps 2 cost x much and they upgrade to the 7800 when it becomes available, wouldn't it be more cost effective for 9300 owners to upgrade to the 7800 since all that you need is the power brick and the heatsink ?

ahh, confirmation.

Gotta love everyone who said it couldn't be done. I disagreed, and hacked the bios.. just never had the spare cash to get a 6800U.
