Need help with my Pavillion zv5000

I am having some trouble with my notebook. Basically, my notebook doesn't return from stand by. Before, I used to be able to go into stand by, then just come back sometime later and press a button or slide my finger across the touchpad and it would return from stand by. Also, when I try to shut down, rather than completely powering down, it seems to go into stand by mode. I only say this this because the power button and the power/standby light are blinking. And the only way to completely turn off my computer is to hold down the power button. I'm not sure if this is a software or hardware problem, but any help or suggestions anyone can provide is appreciated.

Also, this problem may or may not be related. After completely turning off my computer, the light indicating that the wireless card is on is still on and so are the lights for the three quick launch buttons. If I unplug the AC adapter, those lights turn off. If I reinsert the AC adapter again, the only lights on are the three quick launch buttons.

easiest is to just try a format and reinstall.... try booting into safe mode first and see if you have the same issues...

if after format and reinstall it still happens then i would assume it is hardware.. usually it is just buggy software tho

Thanks....yeah, I was hoping I wouldn't have to go that far as that's usually something I'd do if I can fix it. But yeah, I guess I'll just have to.

okay...did the reinstall last night....and no, that did not solve the problem. when I go to shut it down, the same problem occurs. instead of completely powering down, it seems to go into stand by (the stand by light and the power button are blinking). Also, the three quick launch buttons remain on even after i hold down the power button to completely power down. i did not try to see if i can come back from stand by.

EDIT: yeah, couldn't come back from stand by at all. same as last time

Use F8 When starting up and go into safe mode and try again... see if it happens...

Well....when I turn off the laptop, the same problem occurs. And I couldn't test the problem of coming out of standy by mode when in safe mode.

Pull the battery and retry w/adapter only.. Just a thought as there have been major batt issues w/these newer units.. Ken
