Anyone know a good place to order a tool kit to work on a 9300/XPS 2 notebook? I need something that comes with a torx driver for loosening the screws on the GPU heatsinks.
And has anyone found a good way to ground yourself while working on your notebook? I have a grounding strap but i dont know where would be a good place to attach it to that would actually ground me. |

I have a quick question for all you guyz. Is it possible to upgrade a 64mb ati x300 to the 6800 go which was originally intended for the 9300. That will save me all the bios update & power adapter & 9 cell battery hassles. I just want a decent gaming machine, not too much into turning AA & all the other stuff on. Also i think i can get a 6800 go for around 100 or less. What do you guyz think is it possibly technically & is it a good deal or is it still better to get atleast a 6800 ultra or a 7800 even though i'm not going to use all the features. Just looking for the best bang 4 the buck.
Thanks Guyz |

sammykismail... send me a PM if you want a 6800. The 6800 will plug right into your 9300 without a problem. I'll sell mine for cheap if you're interested, but I won't discuss stuff here as there is a sticky that says no threads to sell stuff. So we can talk via PM if you like.
Btw, I just got my 9300 w/ a 6800 in it and it's only been turned on twice and watched 3 movies on it. Still waiting for my power adapter and cpu before I actually use the thing. =) |

Ever since I updated my 7800 drives my CPU has been at 800mhz, and no matter what power settings or switchxp utility setting I use, and even benchmarks it stays at 800hmz.
Anyone have a solution on how to get it back up to 2.13 manually?

Just a question, did anyone ever figure out how to get a CD to flash the BIOS?
EDIT: Second question, has anyone noticed any drops in GPU temps when applying AS5? Reason I ask is my friend and I both have 6800Gos. Mine has AS5, his doesnt (I know how to put on AS5, thats not the problem). His GPU is about 1C lower than mine at idle and 2C lower at load (both using same clocks and RTHDRIBL). I think the problem here is that Dell uses that thin piece of aluminum with TIM on it, which fills in the gap between the core and the heatsink. You have to apply alot of AS5 to still make good contact, and I think this hurts the CPU. Therefore, it might be better just to leave the core with the stock cooling, or get a thin piece of copper sheeting and slip it in there and AS5 both sides of that to maintain the pressure on the core.

Did all the stuff in this post and got my computer up and running. When I install the drivers and want to chance some settings or do anything it says that the drivers I have are for a previous version of windows and not compatible with my hardware. I am using the newest drivers from XtremeG.. what did I do wrong?
Also when I try to install the original NVidia drivers it says that they cant be installed because I dont have any compatible hardware. Last edited by holmern; 12-12-2005 at 11:12 PM. |
