You are trying to boot from dos right? BEFORE windows starts up,
you hit F12, you did this? Boot from the CD, and just follow the instructions on page one. You can NOT install flash the XPSBIOS from windows, in windows, you have to boot from the cd, then flash the bios. It looks like you are trying to flash from windows.

I know its is 2 yrs to late from the original post. I am also needing to know if I need another BIOS if I go with a 7900GTX later on

You do not want to use this BIOS. It is only for the 9300. It does not apply to the 9400/E1705. Also, at the time of this thread there was only the 7800GTX and it was referred to as a 7800. However, now there are two cards; both the 7800 Go and 7800 Go GTX. The 7800 Go is a straight drop in in the 9400/E1705. The 7800 Go GTX requires a few hardware modifications such as breaking a tab and bending a heatpipe (not worth it imo). You could put your old heatsink on the 7800 Go GTX to avoid this but then you'd have to realign the thermal pads with the memory locations on the 7800 Go GTX. In short, you should probably avoid the 7800 Go GTX if you have a 9400/E1705 and use either the 7800 Go, 7900GS, 7900GTX, or 7950GTX. If the card you prefer uses dual heatsinks, then you will still have to break the aforementioned tab but that's a simple and harmless procedure. Just search "9400 7900" to find out more information on that.

hey thanks for the info like I said I am late getting to the game here but I knew that I could up grade to a Ndivia card because that was the option I had at the time had I known how poor the ATI card was I would have just spent the extra 150 on the card. But the silver lining led me here which then told me of the 512 card that would fit so I'll accept that. I got both cards I am going to install the other in a few months when I get back home (currently I am in Iraq) I figured in case I am needing of parts the chances of getting them there overnight if needed are greater than here LOL here the chances of getting it in two weeks are average. So for now I'll go with the 7800 card and then to the 7900GTX when I get home. Again thanks for the input, greatly appreciated I think I got the list of procedures down in order to do what is needed to replace and make fully operational
Correct me if I am wrong
1) make a backup disc
2) load new BIOS (got the one from above ready to go ty breakeRR)
3) remove all old drivers (with recommended cleaning program) got that
4) have 9volt battery and Pa-13 power pack got them
5) remove battery and or power source
6) dismantle
7) replace card not to forget adding AS5
8) put back together
9) power up
10) recognize the new card
11) install new drivers

I think that you don't need to use the BIOS that I gave link to .... Judging by the post of zzpulp - this BIOS is not for 1705 laptops - it is only for 9300. So I am not sure where to get -IF you need one - BIOS for 1705 to support 7900GTX card ...

Personally , I don't think you need any upgrade of your existing BIOS in order to operate new videocard.
Here is some links I found :

My 6800 go died in my inspiron awhile back and I'm just now getting around to getting it replaced (still useable, but with very annoying refreshing when trying to scroll on webpages etc). I'm wanting to get a new card off of ebay (either replacement or upgrade to 7800), but the link on the main page of this sticky for the bootcd iso is dead at rapidshare and I was wondering if someone could reupload it, or is someone already had in a later post? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
