XP install issue

My computer recently started hanging on XP startup and would never boot so I did a clean install. Installs fine but the first time it starts up on the Windows load screen it halts and a blue screen of death comes up for a split second and it reboots, does this over and over again and never boots up properly. I tried 2 clean installs and still the same thing... I was thinking that I might have a bad hard drive but not sure, has anyone else seen this?

What USB Floppy Drive are you using ? Some resellers include the USB floppy drive and some don't.

When you did a 'clean install', do you do the slow format of NTFS or the quick format?

I think I have seen this before. I was using an academic copy of Win XP Pro without service pack 2 on a gateway ultra-portable.

I think that you will get an option to boot into safe mode before the blue screen, or at least I did somehow or another. Then I loaded Windows XP Service Pack 2 from a CD and poof... it worked fine after that. I think it had some new hardware that was not made compatible until after service pack 2.

That's how I got mine working anyway, best of luck!

I used the quick format...Also I have tried booting up with only one memory stick in to see if maybe one of them is bad...same result, maybe they both are bad.

Try using MEMTEST86 from a bootable CD or Floppy.

Have you tried to boot with a single RAM stick (each one) in different slots?

Hopefully not a dumb question.. Did you install the promise drivers? If im not mistaken, bios sees the hard drive.. xp doesn't with the drivers..

Yep, installed the SCSI drivers...it is just weird that if the memory is bad why does it let me go through the whole install???
