No, upgrading the BIOS will not make the keys revert back, but new firmware without the swap will, however.

What's the difference between flashing the BIOS and "firmware"? Aren't they the same thing? Unless, I'm guessing, the key-switcher thingy is flashing something other than the BIOS?

Is the 4080 going to get a CTRL-FN swap fix?

I know that it says it's for the 4080, but it appears from my problems and the issues that other posters are having that the swap doesn't work. The flash runs through all of the motions and gives the appearance of working perfectly. It just doesn't swap the keys

Yeah, I'd appreciate a fix for this on my 4080 as well. I too tried the swap posted by Adam, but no go.

same. 4080 user. PC boots from CD without problems, executes flash prog, then shuts down hard before flash process takes place.

....I had a 5670 before this and there was no key-swap firmware, so I was excited to see a swap-firmware available for this model.

any help on this will surely be appreciated by current and future 4080 owners.

abzorbed, reset your bios to defaults before going into the flash. My problem is that it flashes fine, but doesn't actually change the keys. I've got a 4080, and it's looking like it's a problem everywhere. A little help with this would be great.

Ender thanks for the advice.
Actually i reset the bios defaults and ran through it like that JUST after posting, but didnt have time to edit my post to let everyone know.

Looks like i ALSO had the same problem: Semblance of a proper flash, but no actual change in the keys. hope we can get a fix someday.

Other Keyswaps Available?

I found the download, burn and installation process so satisfying, I'd like to rearrange a few other keys.

Particularly, the [Context Menu] and [CTRL] to the right of the [Spacebar] are worthless to me since I am still in withdrawl from the 8550 keyboard I've used for years. Anybody remember it?

I'd like to learn how to burn those keys to become [INS][DEL].

Any of your famous assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Perfect Instructions.....

I was a bit weiry of trying this..... but I have to say, it went as planned without any hitches. Follow the instructions word for word, and you cant go wrong.

Highly recommended.

Thanks for this!

Sager recently emailed me the newest BIOS for the 4780 (v1.08.01s) and it included two extra firmwares.. one to swap the keys, and one to revert them to the original configuration (without flashing the BIOS). This might be newer than the one posted above in this thread, so if you'd like a copy of it, just send me a PM with your email address or something and I'll send it over.

won't flash

I have done this before but recently I sent my 4780 in for a repair and they switched it back. When Try to flash the bios it boots up from the CD to the bios burning screen but then shutsdown the machine.

Did they put in some jumper or something?
