7422GX
7426GX
7505GX

All these models come with PC2700 DDR333 MHz RAM Modules. There are two slots, one on the underside of the laptop that is very accessible through a RAM slot door. The other module is located under the keyboard that requires a lot more work and will void warranty.

All these models can be upgraded to 2GB of PC2700 DDR333 MHz 200-Pin RAM, OR 2GB PC3200 DDR400 MHz 200-Pin RAM, that's it, no DDR2 PC3200 400MHz, PC4200 533MHz, or PC4300 533MHz, these WILL NOT FIT OR WORK.

I have personally upgraded 3 machines, my 7422GX from 1GB PC2700 to 1GB PC3200 (2 512MBs), an M6805 with PC2700 512MB (2 256MB Modules) to 1GB PC2700 (2 512MBs), an M6810 with 512MB PC2700 (2 256MBs) to 2GB PC3200 (2 1GBs). I've used Centon PC3200 myself, all these systems came with Samsung PC2700 RAM so chances are your's does too.

If you do not want to take your laptop apart to get to the slot under the keyboard, if you have a 512MB laptop, that means you have 2 256MB PC2700 RAM modules, you can keep the inaccessible 256MB, and upgrade to either 1GB, or 512MB RAM to make 1.25 or 1.5GB RAM. Remember that you cannot interchange PC2700 and PC3200 RAM to attain 400MHz, that means if you stick with the inaccessible 256MB or 512MB PC2700, you cannot get a PC3200 stick to run at 400MHz, it will run at PC2700 333MHz speed. You have to stick with the same types of RAM for both slots, or the chances are it won't work.

If you have any more questions, post here. I've seen a bunch of threads asking about memory upgrades about these models and I figured one thread can do the job. If I made a mistake or want me to add anything, let me know. And for those who have successfully upgraded, please post your comments and what brand and size and type of RAM you chose.
There is an interesting article on Tom's Hardware regarding Memory Timings:

Concerned

Just ordered Patriot 2 gig SoDimms
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220040

One heck of a price with the rebate.
After reading the voltage issue, I checked
http://patriotmem.com/products/group...PC3200&catid=1
The specs on the memory says that the voltage is 2.7V

I'm installing on a Gateway 7422GX, you think there will be a problem?

I hope you really mean it's going into a desktop, those are 184-pin RAM for desktop PCs.

NOTE: There is a possibility that you can actually upgrade these machines to 4 Gig of ram using the Smart Modular 2GB SODIMM which can be special ordered from PC Connection.

It is a little pricey. Well VERY Pricey but I just may be fool enough to try it!.

latest (personal) update:
1. my m6805 can run 1024MB PC3200 at stock 200MHZ
2. but - only on ONE band - this means, i can run the system stable as long as ONLY ONE module is being installed. The minute you put a 2nd module of PC32000 = instability galore (hanging - mostly)

So - i come to conclude that (my) m6805 can support more than 1gb as long as it is running at 166mhz, it will support 1gb PC3200 as long as it is in ONE module, spreading it in 2 then one has nothing but problem

The search for over 1gb PC3200 on m6805 continues

cheers ...

Since the 2 year warranty on my m6809 will expire this May 20. I went ahead and cracked my laptop.

I paired the Transcend 1GB 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 333 (PC 2700)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820208015

with my existing KINGMAX 1GB 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 333 (PC 2700)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820155111

It is running smoothly without any problem.

Now I'm thingking of pulling the trigger with this one:

Go for it. Try ebay for the 7k60, i just sold mine for only $80, then bought a 7k100 100gb. The stock 4,200rpm is a slowpoke

PS, sold my 7422gx for a 8510gz, sorry guys.

emachines15 is a n00b, but everyone loves n00bs!
Im having this issue with my emac m6809. I went out and bought it a stick of 1g 3200 ram with a 400 mhz bus (supposedly also compatable with 333 and 266) so when I go to put it in the computer, the bios just goes 1beep...3beeps...4beeps...3beeps) and the pc doesnt start. whats worse is when I go to put the origonal stick of 256mb @ 2700 mhz back into the ram bay, it doesnt even start or beep or anything! but then again, with only the 256mb @2700 in the slot under the keyboard it starts just fine. Did I fry the origonal 256? is the new 1g of ram I bought incompatable with the stick under the keyboard? if anyone has a solution to my problem that would either result in my origonal 512 or my desired 1-1.25gb of ram working, please let me know! if I bought an incompatable chip then what brand will and what specs? thanks for any help on this matter.

u might want to review the whole thread, especially the 1st few posts - it would have the answer to ur queries. Anyway:
1. what is ur 3200 specs? CAS/CL: 3/2.5/2 or just 3 (then this is UR issue)? - VID 2.5v, 2.6v, 2.7v? anything more than 2.5v then u will have an issue.
2. the beep u heard is a sign of ram incompatibility
3. NO, u did not fry the org ram in slot 0/1
4. ur "under" 256mb is pc2700, if u want to go 1.25 then i would recommend get 1gb pc2700 - make no sense to get a PC3200 since it will perform at PC2700 speed anyway.
5. A GOOD 1gb PC3200 cost more than 1gb PC2700, a BAD 1gb PC3200 cost less than 1gb PC2700

cheers ...

well, the origonal is cl 2.5 and the new one.....mabey Im just blind but the new one doesnt say anything more about the specs than its speeed, size, and the bus speed compatability. anyway, this one cost about the same as a 2700, witch the compusa I shop at stopped carrying (best buy didnt have it either) as long as its an incompatability issue and not that the pc cant handle over a gig or something devistating like that then Ill try to keep my moral up and go try all their 2700 and 3200 chips at compusa till I find one that works

u will be safer with a pc2700 (it is always - 99.99% - 2.5v and CL2.5)
the m68xx can handle easily up to 2gb - if one is "crazy" (like myself and many others) enough to swap the "under" ram module as well :-)
try neweggs or tigersdirect - they do have some good offers.

cheers ...
