Not to beat a dead horse here, but I am still using my M6805 and have just tried upgrading the memory to 2GB. I am using 2 sticks of Crucial Rendition PC3200 DDR 400Mhz SODIMM (RM12864X40B). I believe that they are 2.5V and show timings in the CPUZ tables of 3-3-3-8 at 400 MHz.

In this configuration the computer will recognize the full 2GB and boot into XP home, but freezes or restarts randomly while using certain applications and I've had one BSOD.

Both memory sticks test fine for 4+ passes using Memtest86+ when tested individually but will not pass test #8 when using both. Tests 1-7 run fine. If one is paired with the original 256Meg stick then I have no issues - it passes memtest and xp runs fine. It will run at PC2700 speed with 2.5-3-3-7 timings.

Is there anyway to force the system to run the PC3200 when using both sticks at the slower speed of 166MHz and the timings of 2.5-3-3-7. The bios 0F08-P00 does not have any options to set timings. A64 tweaker just freezes when trying to change any settings and I don't believe it would keep the settings anyway.

I can live with 1.25 GB, but getting 2GB to work would be better. Then I don't have to try to return the one stick or sell it.

Ok, I was able to get 2GB PC3200 to run stable if I use A64 Tweaker to reduce the memclock to 166 from 200. I found out that you cannot adjust CAS latency on these systems. With this memory it is fixed at 3 and locks if you change it to anything else.

However, the load on startup settings always lock up the system during login if I turn them on and reboot and then I have to go to safe mode to turn them off. Also I notice that sometimes A64 tweaker does not read the values properly instead it shows the bottom value in all the drop down boxes. I think this has something to do with my moving it to the program files directory from my documents. I tried deleting the HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\cpuz but it did not appear to rebuild the registry value.

When I go in safe mode, cpuz will not initialize and A64 tweaker always shows the values from the bottom of the dropdown list also.

So as it stands, I am back to 1.25 GB and have the second stick up for sale. Too much trouble to get them both running at 166Mhz for all users on the laptop.

I gave up on the PC3200 and installed two 1gb sticks of PC2700 and have had no problems of any kind.

Yeah, I've pretty much given up on getting the 2 Gig to run reliably easily.

Another question, does anyone know if any of the other bioses unlock the memory timings or voltages. If I could increase the voltage to 2.6V or permanently set the memclock to 166 and the timings to 2.5-3-3-7 think it would run stable. Basically turn the PC3200 in PC2700.

The only reason I went with this memory was because it was cheap. $65 CDN for 1GB which is almost as good as DDR2 pricing.

Update:

Now using A64info V0.62. By setting the memclk to 180MHz and the timings to 3-3-3-8 it runs fine. Weird that the rated 200MHz causes problems but not 180.

Have a shortcut in the startup folder to run with the settings file for all users.

"C:\Program Files\CPUz\A64Info-beta.exe" C:\Program Files\CPUz\start.set

Only problem now is the limited user account cannot run the program. Drivers can't be loaded. It works fine for my admin account at startup.

7410GX
7415GX
7422GX
7426GX
7505GX
7510GX

MX7515

All these models come with PC2700 DDR333 MHz RAM Modules. There are two slots, one on the underside of the laptop that is very accessible through a RAM slot door. The other module is located under the keyboard that requires a lot more work and will void warranty.

All these models can be upgraded to 2GB of PC2700 DDR333 MHz 200-Pin RAM, OR 2GB PC3200 DDR400 MHz 200-Pin RAM, that's it, no DDR2 PC3200 400MHz, PC4200 533MHz, or PC4300 533MHz, these WILL NOT FIT OR WORK.

I have personally upgraded 3 machines, my 7422GX from 1GB PC2700 to 1GB PC3200 (2 512MBs), an M6805 with PC2700 512MB (2 256MB Modules) to 1GB PC2700 (2 512MBs), an M6810 with 512MB PC2700 (2 256MBs) to 2GB PC3200 (2 1GBs). I've used Centon PC3200 myself, all these systems came with Samsung PC2700 RAM so chances are your's does too.

If you do not want to take your laptop apart to get to the slot under the keyboard, if you have a 512MB laptop, that means you have 2 256MB PC2700 RAM modules, you can keep the inaccessible 256MB, and upgrade to either 1GB, or 512MB RAM to make 1.25 or 1.5GB RAM. Remember that you cannot interchange PC2700 and PC3200 RAM to attain 400MHz, that means if you stick with the inaccessible 256MB or 512MB PC2700, you cannot get a PC3200 stick to run at 400MHz, it will run at PC2700 333MHz speed. You have to stick with the same types of RAM for both slots, or the chances are it won't work.

If you have any more questions, post here. I've seen a bunch of threads asking about memory upgrades about these models and I figured one thread can do the job. If I made a mistake or want me to add anything, let me know. And for those who have successfully upgraded, please post your comments and what brand and size and type of RAM you chose.
Hey everyone,
I'm new here, and thought I'd ask if these models are the ONLY Gateway/Emachines models that will support 2GB or if these are the only KNOWN models that will support it. I have a Gateway 7322GZ, and I'm upgrading the external RAM, which is the same RAM that the other models take. When I opened it up to fix the screen flicker (great posts/guides thanks to here!), I noticed that the internal RAM was easily accessible, not covered by a card reader. I just wasn't sure if this model could support the upgrade or not. Has anyone tried it with this model? Thanks!

i would give it a shot, make sure that have latest windows updates and stick with pc2700 ram modules. But unless u want to migrate to vista, 1.5gigo is plenty for other windows

cheers ...

Thanks for your help! I found something interesting while looking at those specs on the site. I'm not sure if they are supposed to be the standard or not, but mine are a little different than the ones listed. If that's the case, I got the wrong end of the stick. My processor is 2.8GHz rather than 3.06GHz, and my external RAM slot is not empty (both combined still only totals 480 MB, talk about some % error), just to name a few. However, I do have a max res of 1280 x 800, so that's at least an upgrade. Anyway, if I end up upgrading the internal slot, I'll be sure to let everyone know what happened.

Disregard my last comment about the RAM. I didn't take into consideration the shared video memory. 512 - 32 = 480 MB. Whoops!

I hope someone's around to read this cus I'm pulling my hair out. I upgraded my emachine m6805 ram stick (the one i could get to) to 1gb. No trouble there, but i got bold and upgraded the inner one. After a little work i got it in but it wont boot up. It runs in cycles or freezes or comes up with a screen saying my windows/system config is missing or corupt. I took out the stick under the laptop and it booted up fine. So i dont think it's a bad stick. And it works with 1.25gb ram, but darnit i want my 2gigs. I updated my bios to the shadow bios and still nothing. I checked the stats on the bios screen at powerup and it's registering the two sticks but cant handle them. They're both crucial pc2700 sodimm 200 pin 1gb sticks. I've read all over the place people saying they got it to work. I not very computer consious but I do my best. Please oh please help me.

First memtest86 the new RAM sticks individually then together to diagnose any faulty memory first. It doesn't sound like a compatibility issue since both are the same brand and model but at least rule out a bad stick then work from there. Test the 1GB sticks each.

http://www.memtest86.com/memtest86-3.4a.iso.zip

burn the iso to a blank cd, with nero or dvd decrypter. then boot with the cd, it should test right away. test for at least a couple hours each stick, then both sticks together.

ok well, i memtested all sticks all locations and had no errors. Untill i put both 1gb cards in and memtested, it failed after 8 seconds:

Athlon 64 (0.13) 1804 mhz
L1 cache: 128k 14788 mb/s
L2 cache: 1024k 3268 mb/s
memory: 2047 1155 mb/s
chipset: UIA k8t800 ECC: disabled
setting: Ram 164 mhz DDR 328 CAS 2.5-3-3-7 DDR-1(64bits)

Unexpected interuption
Type: Gen_port
PC: 00003b46
CS: 00000010
Eflag: 00210012
Code: 00000000

Is that L1 number my problem? Shouldnt it be 1024 also? Now the real kicker is, the computer wont finish booting up now. No matter what stick i put back in and no matter where i put it, the computer wont get to the windows splash screen. Just stops with the mouse arrow and a black screen. I'd rather not reformat. Any ideas?

no L1 cache is very small. and if you're getting system32/config/system error it would seem to be unrelated to the RAM actions, that's a registry file corruption. though it won't even start booting now it looks like it's been corrupted even worse, might want to get an XP disc and try fixbooting it

Bad RAM compatibility. Try getting a RMA or a different brand

does anybody know or can confirm more memory than 1gb max for an M5312? my system is an Athlon XP-M 2400, 512 l2 cache, 266 fsb.... factory has 512mb pc2100, i installed 1gb pc2700 but it only registered 512mb of it.... I am assuming it can only accept 512mb per socket and it probably wont even accept the ddr333< just clocks it down to the 266? Just looking for a confirmation here.... can I upgrade the processor??? thanks!
