Audio Issues [Z70Va]

As of recently my audio randomly stops working on my laptop. Nothing will come out of any of the speakers and when I plug in headphones I only hear crackling fora few seconds.

I've looked through settings so many times and I just don't know. I've reinstalled the original drivers even.

It all randomly fixes itself too, like I'll walk away and come back say...30 minutes later and my audio will work. Anyone know what is going on?

Have you tried just using your regular speakers on the laptop itself? It may be a dirty connection thats causing the problem.

Yeah this one is pretty unique. I would start with a fresh install either on a partition or just reinstall all together. Use only the base drivers on the cd no others. If this does not help you can write it off as rma. This is the quickest and fastest solution for ya unless you can undo what you did if this is user error which it may be

I have the exact same problem. Did you locate what the problem is? Can't find information anywhere else really.

There are some Z70VA owners had to replace their sound card because of the headphone jack problem, I don't know if this has anything to do with your problem but try call your reseller or Asus to get the sound card replace.

Mine works fine with headphone jack. it mutes accordingly. It's the random times when the sound just wouldn't work. when this happens, even plugging in headphones won't work. you can hear static-y noises when volume is maxed but the statc-y noise is very soft. however this noise will slowly increase in volume and the sound gets clearer and clearer after a few hours of blasting at full blast and sound will work proper and the static will be no more.

Lost sound last night... blast music all morning with volume controls maxxed. from no sound to static-y stuff to slow increments in volume until all sound came back and static disappear...

If you already reinstall drivers and maybe a clean installation of Windows then I think it's a bad audio card.

matthewchng:

i have the exact same symptoms, i really really doubt is a software issue, i have to done the driving reinstall a couple of times, i will be doing the windows re & re this weekend, i don't hold much faith in it, the way the asus guy sounded when i talked to them make it sound like they know something about this particular problem. he was quick to blame the sounds card.

dont waste too much time on this, i don't think you will solve it though software.

If you don't want to give up your laptop for 2 weeks you can just call Asus and give them your serial number and tell them the problems you are having, also tell them that you are willing to swap the sound card yourself and ask them to email you the disassembly guide, they sometimes will just ship you a new sound card (no charge) without having you send back the entire notebook.

That's only if you are willing to do it yourself so you can still use your laptop, otherwise, send it back to your reseller and have them change sound card for you.

Lol. I was surprised to see this thread back up. I never solved it...I never use onboard anymore anyway. I might get one from ASUS and fix it anyway though, thanks.

i have a similar issue

for a while now sometimes when i turned on my computer it didn't have sound. I always figured it was a software issue because it eventually turned on. I tried restarting and it really didn't seem to have any effect. It also just seemed to eventually work itself out after a while.

However today nothing seemed to help. Like you guys I tried cranking it up all of the way and plugging / unplugging my actual speakers. I heard the staticy music still, but it faded out slowly. It seems to work best when I JUST plug in my regular speakers- when I unplug it no sound comes through the built in speakers.

Oddly enough I haven't moved my laptop for the past month. I just have speakers, my keyboard and mouse plugged into it and have it set up on a desk so there is no strain on the speaker jack. I know that last night it was working okay, and today it seems totally shot- and I def. didn't move anything since then.

I'll try emailing the people I bought it from just figured I'd let you all know that i'm having a similar issue
