Hard Disk for in the optical bay problems
Got my new M6Va yesterday amd with it came a 40gig hd to go into the optical drive.
Laptop of i swap Dvd drive and Hd caddy and boot up. On boot post reports a bad hd (SMART enabled) and press F1 or F2. Bios only sees 1 hd, the 40gig and not the internal one. If i tell it to continue it wont boot into window, boot files missing or something. Anyone any idea how to get it working? Jozi |

[M6Va] Optical Bay Hard Disk Problem
Got my lovelly new laptop yesterday, all is good except 1 problem i can figure out.
When in insert the HD tray into the optical bay i get a post error that the harddisk i corrupt or something, this is not an error for the internal internal drive. In Bios the only HD detected is the one in the optical drive so there isnt the option to boot from the other HD. Anyone know what could be wrong? How to fix it? Thanks, Jozi EDIT: i knew i posted this already, only i couldnt find it (didnt look in the support forum) If a mod can/wants to delete this that find, thanks. |

moved to support, merged with your original thread, and left redirect. (it's not that hard to click on Asus Support, is it?

First time posting i didnt even know about the support forum. 2nd time i taught i was on a different forum? Finding so many notbook forums ive lost track of what i signed up to I got it fixed anyway. All i had to do was short 2 pins on the drive. No jumpers came with the laptop so i assumed it wasnt needed. I swapped the 40gig (1 with error) with the internal one and it worked fine, except no OS. That was when i decided to try putting a jumper on the 2 pins according to the diagram on the drive. Everything works fine now. Thanks Jozi EDIT: just read 1st re[ly, i to taught i was a bios conflict with the drives but only the module drive showed up, internal drive was nowhere to be seen in bios. Anyway its sorted with a jumper and all is fine Last edited by Jozi; 01-06-2006 at 07:38 AM. |

i m going to say that there is a boot order problem, meaning that you currently have you internal hard drive set to secondary and the module set to primary, as i do not have you laptop the only thing i can tell you is to look in your bios for something about boot order for the hard drives
