They are programs designed to test certain aspects of your system from hardware to software. Kind of like a workout for your PC that tells you how in shape you are.

I actually own a Gateway laptop, but been trying to look into many aspect of benchmark programs. This Sandra 2004 is great. I use it to tune up my very old desktop. Within a few minutes of tuning period. I felt like having a brand new computer. Not quite like that actually. But having mere Intel 400 Celeron, 64MB memory and 8MB ATI rage pro, and now seeing all aspects of all my games noticeably improve w/ all settings on high ends and my recenlty slow Window Media 9 program runs like charm, I am really excited. Just wanna say thank you to you all good folk. Now it is time to do something about my laptop. ![]() |

Try "Benchemall". It has its own standardize timedemos that it tests in the latest games such as farcry, unreal tournament 2004, halo, splinter cell, quake3, doom3 alpha leak, etc.
These are timedemos of real 3d engines, based off real games. meaning the scores are real world performance numbers. 3dmark01/03 are synthetic... aquamark03 is a good real world test (as its based off spellforce/aquanox/aquanox2, which are real games) http://benchemall.com/ http://www.benchemall.com/download/benchemall.zip Feel free to post your results here along with your machine+specs http://notebookforums.com/showthread...0&page=1&pp=15 we have a thread going w/ different notebook makers

There are several benchs I recommend:
For Graphics: - Games like Far Cry, Doom III, CS, RTCW. Honestly I don't recommend using synt. benchs like 3Dmark and similars because they don't reflect real performance. For CPU: - Math pure math, Pifast is my favourite, don't use synt. again For Memory: - Use programs like audio and video compression, they realy stress memory. Sciencemark is also interesting. |
