Ive had this notebook for less than a week and I decided to see how F.E.A.R. demo would run. The program auto-recognized the lowest resolution available. But, the good news is that I got 30 FPS in-game using FRAPS. Every once in a while it would dip below 30, but at 800x600 resolution with no FSAA it ran just fine mostly at 30 FPS, just under in complicated areas, and around 40-60 in less detailed areas. What does this mean? To me, it means I'll be able to run most games at playable frame rates. It also means FEAR is unplayable at higher settings, but if you can live with medium settings and a lower resolution, you're golden. I personally am not a huge fan or running at less than 1024X768 res. I have the 2GB RAM model.
This weekend I play to see how EQ2 will run. That should be interesting. I actually own that one, so I'm really hoping I can run at medium settings. Hopeful thinking, I am well aware! |

Jefrey,
Have you changed any settings on your new 5672? I just purchased this one too and would like to play some HL2 and COD2. I've heard wiping the hard drive and reinstalling w/o all the Acer software makes it run faster. How much more I would like to know. JD |

From my tests I was able to get about 300 more 3dmarks just from reformatting etc. But, I will admit it was a pain getting everything to work right. Also, I got very unstable results when overclocking the gpu. It is sad, because the oc on the gpu at one point added another 300 or so to 3dmark05.
After using this notebook for a bit, I would deffinitely not reccomend it for any games. The only real benefit of this notebook is the core duo and its size. I will be adding more to my review plus pictures either today or tomorrow. --K1tty

Also, how did you OC the x1400? I didn't think there was a utility out there yet. Last edited by jefreywith1f; 02-22-2006 at 09:36 AM. |

Yeah, that is what I meant. I would not buy this notebook expecting it to be the only gaming machine I own or a dtr. But, it does make a very nice portable.
I was able to overclock the card once. I used some modded drivers and the told the driver to recognize it as a x1600. Then I was able to use ati utility. Then I ran 3dmark05 which got me a very nice score of around 2100 i believe. But, after I restarted I got errors, and it was really unstable so I had to uninstall the drivers and atitool. Since, I have not been able to get this thing to oc T_T; It just locks up. --K1tty

Hi Guys
well I have been playing HL2 on mine (2gb model) and it runs extremely well, this is on out of the box drivers. This is the first ati machine I have had in years, I fell out with ATI cards when they first introduced opengl to their drivers back on the xpert@play cards, basically the driver was pants and would crash any machine on any o/s constantly however recently I have been trying out the latest cards and drivers and they are extremely stable, are they running something outside in .net (required) thats fixed a problem? anyway the laptop has replaced my desktop, which had a geforce 6600 in it and I must say it performs admirably I think people should consider that if you run at high res, you dont need to put so much anti aliasing on it, as it goes 800x600 with 4x antialiasing would look really good. but hl2 and gta san an are running in 1280x800 and no problems at all I would recommend this laptop for a current gaming machine, anything about 30fps is fine p.s. I would really like to know if anyone has worked out if the x1400 is mxm it should be since its advertised as pci-express, and I would like to upgrade it, the cpu is definitely upgradeable since it sits in a microPGA socket. oh and dont forget THIS laptop takes up to 4gb of ram!!!! there are not many machines that can do this especially at this price range, so it does have some longevity, if the video card can be upped. Keep testing guys and thanks for all the benchies I got less than a k in 3dmark06 but its settled in a bit since the inital test ![]() Last edited by BOFH1971; 03-04-2006 at 12:54 PM. |

Hi Kitty, i see that your 3dmark05 score is 1796. Is that the direct result of redoing the OS and using omega drivers. I'm only able to get 1713 3dmarks on mine with omega drivers. i have the 1gb model.

Just ran 3DMark2005 and got a 1630! Man, I want to get at least a 1800-1900 with this card and memory config.
