Can't find any updates for the prism wireless drivers anywhere

My wireless internet has been siffering from many disconnects and it takes many many tries to connect again. I was hoping that updating the drivers could help as I am currently using the ones that came on the floppy. I went to the intersil website but there were no links to drivers or anything like that. I am running a 802.11g using intersil prism version 1.00.17.0065. Please sirect tme to where I can update my driver.

Oh, thank God. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I have looked everywhere for these drivers. Since Intersil sold it's PRISM series to Globespan Virata, they have taken down all of their generic drivers. Globespan isn't currently doing driver support. They contend that their equipment is sold to OEMs who are responsible for supplying their own drivers. However, Sager isn't providing any drivers for the device either. We may have been conned. Our only hope may be to figure out another company who is using this card and "borrow" their drivers.

At least you guys have drivers. I came home from college one day to find my my floppy was wiped..don't ask me how. Probably my dmbass brother. Of course it was my own fault but I didn't know until I had reinstalled windows xp pro....damn...

Anyway I don't really use it that often but I was wondering could someone ZIP all the files on suppilied floppy with the 5680(802.11g) and mail them to me or post them somewhere. My mail address is willcorgan@yahoo.com.

I would greatly appreciate this. This is annoying.

Same machine, same wireless problems. Just logging in so that everyone doesn't think it's just three people with problems.

I've had my 5680 for about 24 hours, and the internal has already been disabled and replaced with my Linksys PCMCIA card. I love the 5680, but the intersil card has been a major dissapointment.

I just went by Sagernotebooks.com and noticed that. On the 5680 drivers support page it states "Gigabyte 108Mbps Turbo Mode 802.11g Wi-Fi Mini PCI Utility and Driver" and the .inf file in the driver package states "Gigabyte GN-WLMA Wireless Network Adapter" and was posted March 11th on Sagers site. From my understanding is that Intersil is no longer. Were they bought by Gigabyte and they're releasing drivers for the Prism cards under the Gigabyte name? 108Mbps, is this driver compatible with our 54Mbps cards, the 108Mbps cards are an option now with the current versions shipping out? Or is this a mistaken post on Sagers part? In all likelyhood this is a mistake on Sagers part for not keeping both drivers posted, the ones for the 54Mbps and the new 108Mbps card. If I find time I'll try them out for the hell of it but is there any other guine pigs out there who would like to try them out on their 54Mbps card? Some good drivers for this thing would be nice...the release from Adam earlier this month has been giving me problems, I think. An svchost is going heywire on my comp. Digging into the svchost I found its calling/controlling the dll's for the Wi-Fi plus the IPv6 that Cox's High Speed Internet implemented a bit ago and I think theres some conflict or something (this is surpassing my knowledge). It gets wacked and runs the processor at full speed (like a memory leak but with the processor). The other drivers were fine, but perhaps it's not the drivers and just the nature of the new technology of IPv6 and Windows implementation of it and some bugs need to be ratified by Microsoft. Its not a virus, I've done 3 full scans and once with an updated Stinger. Any input, anyone...

Your latter guess is correct. The drivers listed on the site for the 108 Mbps card are a new product that Sager is offering. They are NOT compatible with the Intersil card. The lates bastardized drivers that Adam provided are the only ones available with WPA support for the Intersil card. Under the "new" drivers I get random disconnects from my router - a problem that was fixed under the old drivers by disabling 802.1x support (hard to use WPA without it).

Old thread update: XPSP2 automatically picks this card as a Netgear WG511. The hardware vendor and device ID is 1260:3890 - generic FullMac PrismGT card. It works with many drivers provided by other manufacturers.

On the Linux side of things, it also works with the newer p54pci module [driver] (softmac and fullmac, newer), and prism54 module (fullmac, older). The p54pci module is the newer one, and automatically loads for this card, along with p54common.

What this means in normal English is if you install the current Ubuntu, 7.10, and update (as of this post), it works generally, with the following exceptions:

# Advice from the #prism54 channel on irc.freenode.net is to blacklist one or the other prism modules; I blacklisted prism54 (older); it is blacklisted by default in the current version of 8.04 [Hardy Heron]. The equivalent in windows xp is prohibiting a driver from loading.

# There is a bug in Ubuntu which stops the card from supporting channels other than 1-11 (US), with documentation on how to make the other channels work. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/205095
