If you do update your original post to keep the vital info in one place

I have my bluetooth 350 module from Dell since last week but waiting till I get the MX1000 sometime in the next month. Anyone use the packaged deal with the BT MX1000 mouse and external keyboard? I know it had some bad issues last year and want to know if they have been fixed yet.

I have the mx1000 mouse with the bluetooth keyboard (MX5000 desktop). The issues haven't been fixed yet for the keyboard. When the keyboard is in standby mode and you try to type something it repeats some letters.
Like if you are trying to write Notebook it will write Noootebook.
I don't know if a driver update will fix it. Cause it would have been fixed by now. And I don't think you can do firmware update on BT keyboards. So if this thing looks something that would annoy you, don't go for the combo.

By the way, I managed to change the tray icon but it looks worse. I also changed the Control Panel icon, but it doesn't look so good either. But the previous control panel icon didn't look good either. it is like low resolution.

EDIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FOUND THE SOLUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How to remove Widcomm "My Bluetooth places" icon from your Windows desktop.
Open up the registry editor (Start> Run> regedit)
Browse to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\Name Space\{6af09ec9-b429-11d4-a1fb-0090960218cb}

Delete it. If you are paranoid, choose to export it first (right-click> export), so you can add it back later if you need to.
Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

I have updated the guide as well.

My new Logitech V270 is running a 1000% better with the Widcomm stack over the Toshiba one (damn POS). Major thanks for the walkthrough KAROLOYDI.

After you uninstalled the toshiba drivers and reastarted, did the microsoft drivers get installed automatically? Or did you get a new hardware found wizzard? I just wanna know so that I can update the tutorial.

They install automatically. You have to go to the link on step 5 to uninstall them and then disable the reinstall in the inf folder. then reboot to remove them. The steps are pretty easy and the links work. Just follow the steps and you will be just fine

FYI for Bell bluetooth module problems: Mine stopped working one day out of the blue [no pun], didn't show up in hardware manager, even the little bluetooth LED indicator was off.

Thought the BT module was dead but turns out it was deactivated in the BIOS!! How did it get deactivated...who knows? Dell tech who helped me said the comp MAY have noticed a problem/ conflict and turned it off. Very strange.

To check or reactivate: at the very bottom of the BIOS menu you'll see the generically labeled "Wireless Device" option; select and hit enter. Select "Enable", save and exit. If "enable" is selected and the BT module still doesn't work then I'd suspect a dead module.

Is there a way to get the MX1000 BT mouse without buying the MX5000? I don't need the keyboard!

Also, how's the battery life on the BT MX1000 vs the non-BT MX1000? I kind of want one!

And the battery life compared to the non-BT MX1000?

I'm really interested in picking this mouse up still... Could I give the keyboard to a friend of mine or do you need to keep bits for the mouse to work?

Thanks in advance for answering these questions. Your response will decide my purchase!

I have the MX5000 combo. Battery life on the mouse is good I think. I put the mouse on the charger about once a week. If you are just using the mouse you can give your friend the keyboard and BT dongle. The charger is a stand alone item. I game with the mouse all the time and it works great for me. I am using the widcomm drivers. If you are just going to use the mouse you may not even need to load those drivers, just use the driver in windows xp I think it will work. I know the stock Dell drivers will run the mouse.

Thank you! So you don't need the dongle to even install the mouse the first time?

You only need to have the dongle and install the widcomm drivers and the logitech drivers if you want to customise the buttons on the mouse (Which is really useful in online gaming). Otherwise it will work without these.
But I am not sure if the mouse will be working at 800dpi if you don't install the logitech drivers. It might only work at 400dpi. Cause I noticed that it became faster and more accurate after I installed the logitech drivers. I also noticed the same thing with my previous mouse, razer diamondback.

The keyboard delay is quite annoying. I make enough mistakes typing and don't need any help from a keyboard going into/out of standby.

I don't have my MX5000 with me right now to test it out on, but if you adjust the delay timing on your keyboard to be slower, that lessens the problem. If I remember correctly, it was a good improvement, but not a total fix.

Control Panel -> Keyboard -> Repeat Delay

Yeah, I want to have customizable buttons. I'm worried that I'll be disappointed with the mouse in a few areas. First, I worry about paying so much and only using the mouse and not the keyboard, and also I worry that the "lag" from BT will be greater than my current MX1000. I think I'll pick it up though from Best Buy and see how it goes. I can always return it if it blows.

Grrr...every time I uninstall the BT card to install the Widcomm, when I reboot prior to Widcomm install, it just installs the card by itself. Any ideas have to get around this?
