Battlefield 2: "To Core Duo, or not to Core Duo."

We all know that Pentium M's are better at gaming than their L2 Cache inferior siblings, but what about the new Core Duos? How are they at gaming, and in particular, at playing Battlefield 2?

How much difference will there be in playing Battlefield 2 on a single core pentium M, versus playing it on a Core Duo at the same clockspeed?

Thanks

BF2 doesn't support dual core CPUs so upgrading would be a waste of money.

And if you decide to go with the dual core the 9400 or whatever it's called will just end up being GPU bound cause the video card isn't as fast as the XPS one so your games ill still be slow.

It's like a lose lose situation HA!

LOL dude, ever heard of MARKETING?
BF2 is NOT optimized for dual core, the only games that have dual core versions right now are Quake4 (which runs significantly better on a dual core CPU) and Call Of Duty2; for COD2 there is no performace diffrence between single and dualcore, even on the dual core executable.

Man please, this is so funny. Of course intel lies and 90% of those games are not dual core optimized. That is just marketing ploy. Intel says their processors are the best for games; does anyone sue them for that? It's all marketing. If you need proof, all you need is to look here:

The word "supported" and "optimized" are the key

Answered in another thread - Core duo better due to many tasks besides the game that keep a machine running. However the lack of a 7800 Go GTX on a core duo negates the advantage.

7800 Go is not the same beast as the 7800 Go GTX

So for now while core duo is better, the Pent M has the gpu you'll want.

Nvidia drivers are optimized for dual-core so it doesn't matter.

How are Nvidia drivers optimized for a dual core CPU? Do they split up API calls across the cores or something?

Exactly!!! - I do know the new dual core Athlons have higher a FPS over there equally clocked counterparts in most games - Driver optimization. Really i have no idea.

I thought on the Duo Core CPUs if the 2nd core isn't used the both L2 caches are combined to boost performance instead.

Battlefield 2 is mainly GPU-limited, so Core Duo wouldn't hurt, but it won't help much.
