C600 keyboard issue - replace motherboard or keyboard?
I have an Inspiron C600 on which I am running Windows XP. All has been fine for some time, and then suddenly I found that there was an issue with the keyboard, or perhaps with how it was communicating with the computer.
Some letters work correctly, such as a s d and f, but others do not funtion properly. For instance, when I type 'h' I get 'hyu' and when I type 'g' I get 'gtr' if it is a new sentence and 'gt' if it is part of a sentece. Other letter keys are functioning as tab, page down, cats and dogs living togehter...total chaos. If I connect an external keyboard it works fine, so I assuming that is not a language setting or something to that effect (bear with me, I am only mildly computer literate). I did a clean install of XP hoping it was the drivers, but nothing has changed. I found no change in response with heavy or light pressing of the keyboard, and I removed and cleaned the keyboard without any effect. My question: Is this likely a keyboard issue or a motherboard issue? Or neither? I am looking to buy a replacement part on Ebay. Thanks for any insight you might have! |
