Gigabit NIC issues
Hi fellow 5720 Users...
I am a love my 5720 don't get me wrong, but I've just about had it with these intermittant network issues I've had. I am starting to think I am crazy. Anyways here is my issue; at odd times when I am in the midst of transfering larger amounts of data across networked drives (or downloading off the net), the NIC drops its IP address and refuses to get it back from the DHCP. If I try the "Repair Connection" I just sit and wait and wait and end up with "Limited Connection" but it still does not have an IP address. I need to totally reboot to get back to what I was doing. This has always happened to me while I have been at work (I use this laptop at home but not as extensively as I do at work, so maybe its just chance). I have tried to connect using various different network cables and switch connections, and they all eventually have the problem (it seems). I really thought I had it fixed when I switched my switch connection (I blamed a bad port on the switch), but the problem has arisen again. ARGH!!!!!! I love my lapper but I have made many boo boo's on the network with this happening always in the midst of file transfers. I run Windows XP Pro on a AD Domain. I am using themost current NIC Driver off the sager support site for the marvel yukon adapter. any help would be well... ummm.. Helpful. |

Are you sure that the problem is with the NIC and not the network?
Mine never showed that problem and I have it connected 99% of the time. If you sort it out and make 100% sure that it is the NIC, then I could consider getting a RMA to check it for defects. |
