weeeeell, what are you studying? A lot of deciding what kind of computer to get is basically figuring out what your needs are, and then decide what fits your budget based on that.
So again, what are you studying? What kind of work will you be doing on your laptop?

One of the advantages to having a notebook in college is taking your computer around campus giving you difference environments to work in. Anyone can work in the library... but can they work in the cafeteria? Garden? ect... Also I think notebooks are trendy... which is another drive to have one in college. Alright... that’s what I have to contribute to your thread... do your own research and find out what you can buy. |

First question: What size and build are you? A certain weight/size of laptop might be just fine for one person and too bulky or heavy for another. It's easy to overestimate how much weight is comfortable for you -- my machine isn't that heavy by itself (well, not for a quasi-DTR with an Athlon 64), but the combined weight of laptop, USB hard drive, mouse, headphones, power supply, and case that I lug around can be fatiguing to carry for the mile between my apartment and class.
You might look at one of the newer 14" machines with an x1400. Another good (and cheaper) option, in the 15" category, would be the Asus z71v or z70va. My girlfriend has a z71a (just like the z71v except without the dedicated graphics), and likes it -- Asus makes good stuff. |

Max I want to lug around is 6 pounds. I like the e1505 because it's right there in my weight range.

It's actually easier for me to take notes on a laptop. I type a lot faster than I can write. The only reason I don't take my laptop to any classes is because I don't take notes in any classes.

I take notes with a pen and notebook in most of my classes, but I do carry around my Acer with me all day, for when I need to use it for stuff (like gaming over lunch, etc).
I think I'd prefer to take notes on my computer, but it's not widely accepted yet at my university to do so. Hopefully, in the future this will change. I type much faster than I can write. I can also type without looking at the screen, which would mean I could type while watching the instructor. That would be nice. Ransom
