WFO, What bios version do you have? You got it from Sager? I haven't heard of a 1.0x bios that had the problem yet.
I had the idea that all versions of the bios come from Clevo. We were mentioning Eurocom because that 2.02 bios was easy to download.

Cheers,

Steve

It says Phoenix 4.0 Release 6.0 R2.02BS

Based on the 2.02 number one would think it supported the ML44 like the Eurocom. When I e-mailed tech support, I got a terse "not on the supported processor list." If Sager won't help, I'll use the Eurocom bios and another vendor for my next laptop. Sheesh! My 4750 isn't even a year old and the won't support it anymore? Bleep 'em!!!!

I don't suppose you could lean on 'em for us...could you Luke? :-)

My laptop too is less than a year old.

I would be pleasantly surprised if PC Torque took any action now on our behalf. I've copied them on my emails to Sager. I've addressed them on this issue and no response yet. So I have little or no hope that either Luke or anyone else at PCT will come through.

But if they do, then PCT will be in my good books again.

You know, kudos to Eurocomm. they are the only ones I have ever found a current bios or drivers from. Infact when I reloaded to XP64 they were the first place i checked. I'm not sure if they have the drivers but they are the only one who responded to me when I asked about a turion in the D470K/N4750/othervariations.
Send me that bios!!! PM sent.

Yes, you are right. Clevo provides the updates and the vendors will publish/supply them at their own discretion to the customers.

Eveytime I contacted Clevo they referred me to the vendor because according to them (Clevo) - its up to the vendor to determine if the BIOS update is justified. They also recommend that if we (customers) have any issues to contact the vendor and escalate the issue through the normal channels. This qualifies the issue as genuine and worthy of investigative effort by the Clevo remedy team.

I suggest that we ALL email Sager encouraging them to look into this issue. If there are many of us reporting this discrepancy I bet Sager will notice it and do the proper thing by escalating to Clevo.

Sorry. It does not work for me either. Fortunately I dual boot between x32 and x64 and that solves my problem with Winphlash.

If you only have XP x64, then an easy alternative is to download BARTPE CD boot ISO and run Winphlash from that x32 session.

I figured out why the processor was so hot. The cool and quiet is not working. The frequency and voltage never drop. I checked and the power profile is portable/laptop. I re-installed the via chipset and agp drivers, and the amd processor driver. No luck.

May I sugest you check the following?
  1. See if your power options (Control panel) settings are set to portable/laptop. If thery are not then the CPU will not throttle.
  2. I actually have it set to "RMCLock Power Management" as I prefer to have RMClock setup with multiple CPU and north bridge throttling profiles. I highly recommend you give RMClock a try.

I had it at portable/laptop.
I re-installed the AMD processor driver, I installed RMClock. Initially it did not change anything. I went through the tabs and clicked "defaults". After messing around for a while it went to 800Mhz. Good, right? Wrong. Now it won't throttle up no matter what I do. I made a small program to count to 10 million. I see the load peg to 100%. Processor stays at 800Mhz.

I figured it out. You have to manually add pstates into RMClock.
I have:
State 0 FID 4.0x VID = .975v
State 1 FID 12.0x VID = 1.375v

msantos, can you post the pstates you are using? Thanks.

Glad to see you figured it out.

Here's my strategy for setting the pstates. If you follow this approach your machine should very very cool and quiet.
  1. First specify the lower pstate at 4x and 0.8 volts
  2. Second, enter the highest pstate at 12x and 1.35 volts
  3. Then specify whole integer pstates from 5 to 11. Make sure that RMclock picks the appropriate voltage automatically. A checkbox does this each time you enter a new pstate. Do not specify half multipliers. Instead enter whole integers.
  4. On the last tab tick the checkbox for "lower power north bridge" and make sure that the AMD pstates radio button is not selected.

Here are some snapshots of my RMClock setup:

Can y'all recommend a good place to order an ML-44 from? Where'd you get yours? None of my local stores seem to have any in stock, so I'm looking for a reputable online store...
