Yep. Clevo manufactured two differently powered notebooks with the same chassis: One powered by an Intel and the other powered by an AMD CPU. Our model is the D470K.

I had a feeling thiat would be the result. I tried 2.04a pretty extnsively and it just didn't want run on my 4750 no matter what settings I chose. In my case it wasn't related to Windows as it would BSOD during the fresh install attempt. It's destined to remain a 3700 plus for now.

If true, this is definitely not good news - as it turns a CPU upgrade into a costly game of roussian roulette.

I got assurances from Eurocom that all *Their* D470K Pyhton's are elligible for the Turion upgrades with the recommended BIOS updates. I have no reason to doubt them as they have proven to be VERY technically competent up until now (unlike our Sager friends). Having said that however, could this be an indication that the Sager models may have greater design variability that makes some of them ineligible for the upgrade?

I think this is something we should investigate - if indeed there are more people reporting upgrade discrepancies such as yours. It almost appears we should get a head count of how many have succeeded in performing the upgrade.

Informally from the email feedback I have gotten, the count it at 8. I suspect there may be a few more that have also succeeded and have chosen to go about life as usual - At least I have not heard reports of failure from them -yet.

You can count me as unsuccessfully for the moment.

What I really like to see here is the data from various (diff. ?) mainboards on the D47K series.

I'll start here with what I have:

Hey m, didn't you say the 2.02 Eurocom supports the Turion too. If that's the case...maybe those of us that can't get 2.04a to work should try 2.02. If that runs stable, a Turion purchase may still be worth while.

I have a D470k (with a 3400+) which I got through M-Tech (poor support though, I wouldn't recommend them) in August '04. I had upgraded to 2.04a about a week previously, so I just popped the new proc in with some Dynex silver paste (from Best Buy), rebooted the thing, and it came right up. Haven't had any problems with BSODs or anything...

It runs noticeably cooler (my wrist doesn't burn), and after following the extremely useful Rightmark instructions upthread, it idles at 802Mhz and throttles nicely up and down between that and 2.41Mhz. The fan idles at a lower speed, but it still runs constantly. I do have the 5400RPM drive, which probably runs a bit hotter, but I'm not sure. I'd love it if I could get the fan to shut off entirely, if anyone has any suggestions.

At Idle, the CPU sticks right around 31 degrees C, and the HD is at 40 degrees C.

Yes, 2.02 shall work with the Turion. The major problem (as reported & discussed previously) with 2.02 was that the DMA for the HDs wasn't set / initialised correctly to DMA 5. That's why msantos got Eurocom to make a 2.04a from the older 2.04 (2.04 had the same DMA problem as 2.02, 2.04a not).

Indeed, except for the vendor details, your example and details echoes much of the positive email feedback I've received. On this perspective, it lends credability to Eurocom's statetement that all their D470K's should support the upgrade. I still hope that all other vendors drew from the same Clevo production stream.

I am not sure my notebook's fan stops spinning at all. But given the temps it reaches when idling I defintely cannot hear the fan at all. I only notice a little rev-up wirl when the temp reaches 40 celcius - and even after this the fan is barely audible.

Got It Will try tm. Hope it works .

Things have been going fairly well with my ML-44 and 2.04a bios. You can definately count me in the "it works" column. The only problem I have been having is an occasional lockup when at near idle. It looks like it might have been the Rightmark CPU clock 2.05. I had set the bottom and top voltages up to .85 and something like 1.45 to try to get it stable, but it would still hang on occasion.

I noticed that they have a RMClock 2.1 beta2 out (look in the forum), and I have installed that. This version has direct support for the ML processors! The one part of setting up this new version that drove me crazy was that I could not change the voltages. It had 1.4v for everything. I finally figured out that you have to click on the "+ Profiles" menu (NOT on the plus sign, but on the word "Profiles"). This gives you a menu where you can set the bottom and top voltages. I now have the bottom and top voltages at .75v and 1.375v. No problems so far. It will be a week or so before I know if it has fixed the problem. I also plan to try the prime9 torture tests to see what voltages I can use.

I also noticed that AMD has a newer 1.3.1 May 2006 processor driver out.

Regarding fans. My laptop's fan comes on at 55c and shuts off completely at 40c. I made laptop coolers like MS's and have them at work, and at home. The laptop's fan never comes on if I am doing ordinary office stuff. It always comes on when I am gaming. I highly reccommend that people build their own laptop cooler. One 80mm fan undervolted to 6-7v blowing up under the processor intake is quite adequate. You might want a 2nd fan under the video intake as well.
