Can you expand on that a little? In a previous post you said you knew a senior tech....

I know a technician who works at the HP Service Centre and he has help me a lot concerning my Compaq notebook, providing me advice and software for me to use. I can try and ask him if he has a copy of the HP QuickPlay software available. Do not bring your hopes up though because he is quite busy as he is the senior technician and I'm not exactly free. I let you know what happens.

If you've read this thread then you would have known why I haven't been able to get it yet. Until I receive my notebook, I can't go to the Service Centre and try to retrieve the disk if there is one. I might get it soon though as I have to send my notebook in for some repairs.

Despite of this software working for only the dv series (as HP would say so), I have myself a zd8320 notebook. I am trying to get an image of QPv2. I hope I will know more tomorrow..
I don't know if it can work with the zd series, nothing is clear about this, so it probably won't.
So, maybe I hope I can make others (you) more happy with it.

Even for DV4000, there is a BIOS update involved. I doubt if the ZD8320 will have a comparable update for the BIOS. Good luck.

Had saw the post briefly, new notebook with scratches on it. Sounds like you maybe got a returned unit since you held them to the lower price the first salesman you talked with agree to?

On the tech you know.... If you have to drive some distance to get there... or something along those lines... If there was anyway you could talk in private briefly with him before you picked up your unit, shipped the other off, etc that would probally increase your chance of getting maybe a "copy".

Maybe use the fact the unit was scratched unit as a bargining chip... Scratched unit, vendor tried to raise the price, you think maybe you got a returned unit... Want QuickPlay install disc.... QP install disc should have been in the box....

What I mean is they may not have the disc in stock for the public, that they only have their service copy for the shop. If you can arrange ahead of time to have him burn a copy for you that would save you an extra trip.

Just an idea.

PS: Don't have any scratches on the dv8000t CTO I received directly from the factory in CHINA.... The front case wasn't enaged right between the speakers.... had to fix that... no biggy. Was concerned that some of the plastic tabs were broken but it appears to have snapped in place correctly.

(My dv8000t CT - production date 1st week April, 2006 came with a LightScribe and an AOL disc so I know HP can throw the disc(s) in the box before they seal it up for shipping Those disc(s) cost almost nothing to make and it's an insult they are not shipped with the unit, or shipped upon demand, no questions asked. Especially on a laptop in which the HD may receive a shock to it, and it destorys the hd, along with it the the HP recovery partition:-)

One last thing, for those counting on the HP recovery discs (made by the user) to save them later on... I made mine, and on the first disc I get read errors about 4 minutes into to read... 2nd disc read fine.

A BETTER option to backup your hard drive, make your OWN restore discs can by found:

Yes, I thought it would be appreciated

I'm going to school today... hopefully, I will go home at the end of the day with that cd... That person who has it works at some store, selling those laptops

*edit*
Today, I got the message that he will bring the cd / image tomorrow. I'll copy it, and will upload it. But.. where & what way is best for you?
Bittorrent is nice, but I haven't got any experience with that. It's probably easy, so if someone could lend help with it... thanks.
My upload is around 1 mbit, so not bad.

Hey guys, I thought I'd throw in my two cents. I just bought a DV5163cl laptop to replace my ZV6000 that I dropped and broke. This one is awesome in terms of hardware, weight, size....but I was appalled when i started it up and saw all the crap software they had loaded onto it. I then was even more surprised when I realized there were no OS disks or driver/application disks included. I quickly made my recovery disks using the HP utility, and removed the recovery partition. I then used the recovery disks to reinstall windows, hoping for a clean install. I was even more upset when it took 3 HOURS, reinstalled the recovery partition, and ALL the crap software again! I talked to HP customer support chat online, and have in the mail the following CD's to allow me a clean install of windows:
*411451-B22 Software application CD - HP Quickplay restore
*406277-001 Software recovery DVD (RDVD) - Windows XP Media Center Edition operating system

If that quickplay CD includes v2.0, I will make an ISO and host it on my website for everybody to download. By the way, do you guys reccommend installing Windows XP Media Center Edition on this laptop, or should I just go with regular Windows XP SP2 Pro? I'm not too concerned w/ the quickplay feature, I can live without that if I have to, but I hope to get it working.

Thanks in advance. It seems that is the correct CD for QP2.0.

Apperciated, YES, Greatly!!!... Double check with your friend on what version it is. QuickPlay V 1.x has already been posted

What we are looking for is the install CD for QUICKPLAY V2.0 , Part number is: 411451-B22 , Software application CD - HP Quickplay restore disc.

On the bit torrent:

The problem with bit torrents is allot of people who really need it won't be able to access it. Some may be at work or school (with a fast connection) and will NOT be able to access it since bit torrent requires software to be installed... Software they are NOT allowed to install. If you can't install the software, you can't access it via bit torrent.

Some (like me) have concerns over such programs as allot of those types of programs have embedded spyware and el-crap-ola in them.... Not crazy about programs that may allow access from the outside... Another consideration is on allot of websites bit torrent links aren't allowed to be posted.

Here are some upload sites that ANYONE will be able to access... NO special software needed:

http://up-file.com/index.php with a 1024mb (1 gig limit)
http://www.spread-it.com/ 500mb
http://www.megaupload.com/ 250mb
http://turboupload.com/ 70mb
http://rapidshare.de/files/

How about this, Upload to one of the above severs (or server /website of your choice) then someone with bit torrent software, download, and then upload to bit torrent as well.

Process, ISO, split file if needed. pick server(s) to upload to. Start the upload, then go out to lunch, start upload and then go take a nap, got to sleep... Let the pc do all the work.
(Some people think they have to sit in front of the screen the entire time something is uploading or downloading:-)

That way everyone will be able to access.

Evan,
411451-B22 Software application CD - HP Quickplay restore -Yep that is the one we are hoping to see! I for one and looking forward to seeing it. (Franky I'm about to the point of just nuking the whole hd, then doing a fresh install of XP PRO.)

Evan... you said the discs are in the mail... Have they been shipped?, Tracking number?, ETA? You should have gotten an e-mail with ship date, e-mail with access to order page..

On the v2.0 QuickPlay install... several posts up are the instructions, seems pretty simple. Install OS, then leave free space, no other partition, install. http://www.notebookforums.com/showpo...&postcount=191

(I'm wondering if the installer is "smart" enough to allow a second partition to be left on hd C:\OS > FREE SPACE> D:\ DATA - Probally not as most OEM setup their systems with the DATA on the same partition as the OS.)

DATA on the same partition as OS is like having irreplaceable pictures of your grandmother in the kitchen... then wondering why the pictures got burned up when there is a cooking fire, got grease all over then from cooking!

PS: Evan, If your machine uses a SATA Hard Drive... to do the fresh install you'll need a USB floppy drive to install the SATA drivers from, Press F6 at first part of install, point installer to the floppy drive.

Before nuking the hd make a copy of the C:\SwSetup folder... Download all the install packs from HP, Download the latest copy of whatever firewall your running... Get OS up, install firewall first, then all the other stuff. (If you need to be connected for any reason while installing everything)

On PRO vs Media.... I'm going with PRO... since that is what I know.

Some people like XP MCE, others hate it.

One last thing, for those counting on the HP recovery discs (made by the user) to save them later on... I made mine, and on the first disc I get read errors about 4 minutes into to read... 2nd disc read fine.

The instruction I found and translated specifically mention to remove all partition(s) other than C. The QP installaton will create a new unknown space at the end of unpartitioned space for the QuickPlay. After the installation, you can create the other partition(s) back.
This is different from QuickPlay 1.x. With QP1.x, you have to re-install QP after increase or decrease number of partitions.
