QPv1 does allow us to install QP again even if you deleted the partition.
I tried once to ghost the QPv1 partition to send it to Turkey, but I couldn't do it. There is something called "Crosslinked Partitions", and because of that, I wasn't able to make a ghost image of the QPv1 partition. I guess QPv2 is protected somehow too.

I'm really hating myself right now. I just got my dv5000t and instead of reformatting, (I didn't want to deal with drivers and shit), I just uninstalled everything relating to HP NOT including quickplay (basically the games and the trialware (ie money, office, quicken, sonic) but not the stuff I felt was important).
I also deleted the recovery partition and then didn't realize what the unpartitioned area was for so just made the HD the full size with Partition Magic. I then proceeded to delete unnecessary folders in C drive including swsetup and temp shit. I can run quickplay 2.0 in windows, (I can hit button and use remote) but I cannot boot into quickplay. I used data recovery software to get some folders back but it did not help. I also resized the partition to leave exactly 1024mb of space for quickplay. I called HP and told them and all they said was that I could buy a CD for 45.00 but I know that it is quickplay v1 b/c at first she said to look for a cd, then resize the partition to 204mb which is for v1. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I feel like a total dumbass and I REALLY do not want to send it back.

Cool man thanks. Emails wolfenden@cox.net. Is there any way to upgrade or anything?
I feel like a total dumbshit. Also ANYONE WITH QUICKPLAY 2.0 WORKING! Please tell me exactly the way your computer shows the partition setup. This program will tell you what it is (trial will at least) what the HD looks like. I just need to know what the HD looks like. Mine shows 2 partitions one is all the windows and the other is 1027.6 mb of UNPARTITIONED space. Someone who has done nothing should have 3, one w/ windows, one recovery, and one for quickplay 2.0. Mainly I want to know what it says for the quickplay (ie unpartitioned or whatever). This would be greatly appreciated. Also, anyone with a recovery disk who got it with windows xp pro, I would gladly pay them for a copy of their recovery disk (one made with the partition not the $10 one, I have that one). Thanks.

Ya so do I. I really don't want to send it back and I hate not having qp. I guess I'll wait a couple of weeks.

Did you order it from HP.com and is within the 21-day return period? The only way to restore the QP2.0 right now is to send your laptop back and get a new one.

Quebec Papa = Charlie Foxtrot
Quickplay 2.0 is a mess. It's basically a part of windows, i just got a new DV5178US with 2.0, and all I saw as far as partitions is one big one, and one little one (im at work so i dont have the exact sizes handy). as far as i can tell, all the little one (12.1 GB isn't so little!) is, is the recovery partition. I'm under the impression that since it took 4 DVD's to burn the recovery disks (that works out to about 12-15 GB of data) that is all that is in there. I don't think 2.0 works the same way as 1 did. Version 1 was linux based and essentially acted as a completely seperate operating system. Version 2 is integrated so tightly into windows (hell, it even shows "resuming windows" and the windows boot screen before kicking in) that it may not actually be possible to seperate it. I doubt that even the recovery disks that you can "purchase" from HP will do it, since they're just barebones OS and driver disks. The only thing I can think of, and I have yet to try this, is that once the recovery disks are created, using the "software and driver recovery" stuff on them to install QP. I have yet to investigate how tightly entwined QP and windoze are, or even if QP is listed in add/remove programs. (Anyone who has 2.0 and has a minute, please check this out... if it's in add/remove there's a good possibility it's seperable.) I'll mess around with it more tonight.
Anyone know if the recovery disks keep the partition scheme the way it is? or do they wipe it out? And while I'm rambling... If QP2 is listed in the Add/remove programs, then it's probably recoverable off of the partition, which means its probably recoverable off of the disks... anyone ever try installing the software from a recovery DVD from one HP notebook onto a similar one? like, my former HP that i returned was a DV5040US with QP1.... what are the chances of being able to use some of the software recovery ability of my new laptop's DVD to install QP2 (if it's on there)... that sort of thing. Let's get ready to ramble...
My HDD according to the management console:
(C 80.27 GB NTFS (System)HP_RECOVERY (D 11.88 GB FAT32 1.00 GB NTFS (Unknown Partition) -------- The recovery partition is very much inaccessable, unbrowsable, and untouchable, with an HP warning intercepting attempts to view it. The folders within are represented by a rather ominous padlock icon. I tried to share the drive, but unfortunately the computer I shared it with was also unable to view it. --------- Recovery CD 1 (cd0) is also protected by the same padlock icon, but only when viewed on the HP machine... on my Toshiba it includes some additional interesting crap, including "QP_BOOT.INI" Someone brighter than me could probably figure some good stuff out from these CD's, just using them in a non-HP computer. As of right now, I am using windows backup to create a copy of the recovery partition. I'm seing thinks named D:\PRELOAD and D:\MiniNT. A few things flew by relatively quickly, but I'm pretty sure there were some .exe files in there. who knows, maybe a QP install? ---------- QPV2 does appear in the add/remove programs list in windows, meaning that it is something ADDITIONAL to windows, probably not linux like V1. The additional 1.00 GB should most likely be left when OEM windows installed, with the installer for QP writing onto it with some kind of magical hardware access thing. After all, if the thing shows up in windows add/remove, it would have had to theoretically have been installed after windows, right? |

Well that was crap.
The recovery partition contains exactly the same files as the disks. Not suprising, but disappointing. Would have been nice to find a Holy Grail. There's a good possibility that the instructions for writing/running/integrating QP2 into windows are written so broadly across the board on those CD's that an installer can't be hacked, and HP will just have to create a disk.
I wonder... Since HP Notebooks, when ordered custom, are actually available with recovery disks (listed as OS disks), do they also come with a QP recovery disk for V2? anyone who knows this should post ASAP. Mine was purchased through Compusa, so no options for disks. But ya gotta figure that if the DV5000 series was available for custom config with/without disks from 1.0, and they're still available with/without disks... i'm lead to believe there are 2.0 disks floating around somewhere, same as 1.0 |

I purchased a custom dv5000t and got no disks besides lightscribe update drivers and the $10 OS disk. I tried to talk to HP and they said they would sell me a CD for $45 but I know it was qp1, and if it wasn't I'm not going to spend 45 to see if it is. I guess I'll wait before the 21 day is up and then send it back.
