Weird touchpad problem (Packard Bell)

Well, I found this forum a bit late for my problem, because I'm taking the laptop to be fixed tomorrow but I'll shoot anyway..

The problem is: I can move the mousecursor with the touchpad, but left-click and tapping on touchpad don't work. This seems very weird to me, since the drivers clearly recognize the tapping (how do I know this? There's an indicator on the quicklaunch bar that shows when and how hard the touchpad is touched). I tried re-installing several different versions of synaptics drivers, no success.. I even re-installed Windows, the problem persist.
I've had the computer about 4 months now, and the problem appeared about a month ago. Now last week I demonstrated the problem to my friend and, of course, *tadaa*, the touchpad worked beautifully for a few minutes.. after that it went broke again...

So to sum up, the right-click-button of the touchpad works and gives me what it is supposed to give, I can move the mouse-cursor ... but left-click and tapping are not working. Any ideas?

The computer is Packard Bell R3400 with Synaptics touchpad.
