20% Off Apple Computers for Developers

This came up in another thread and thought everyone should be aware of it. I signed up as a student member (free) last year, so it's cool to find out I can take advantage of the 1 time offer for 20% off!

here's the link

special thanks to ccailao for bringing it to our attention!

It is very cool indeed.

However.

I am not sure whether I should use that one time deal to get my macbook pro or if I should just get the student discount and deal with it.

Check here: http://developer.apple.com/membership/europe.html

You have to become an ADC member first, student prices run $99, and then you can purchase your 1 system or more, depending on which service you select.

I'm confused. I signed up as a developer but am not a student, does this mean I can't get the 20% discount? I'm in the UK.

u can. to my knowledge non-students have to pay to join. so if u joined and paid i'm guessing u r all set. i'm not sure if the $99 fee is across the board or if its only for students. it makes sense that it would be for students since they were able to join 4 free. am i makin any sense? in any case, follow the links to the apple site and check the details.

Anyone can join the Apple Developer Connection for free. If you want the discounts, you have to become a paid member. I don't know about prices in the UK, but in the US it's $99US for students, $500US for Select, and $3,500US for Premier membership. The program level determines how many systems you can purchase at a discount. (See this page for details.)

That's exactly what happened when I tried configuring a purchase. I didn't pull the trigger, but it sure was tempting. (Still waffling on which system to purchase. )

mnm2004bft is a n00b, but everyone loves n00bs!
Hey, I was just about to get a 17 - Inch Macbook Pro when a friend of mine told me that the Macbook Pro is not covered by the limited one year warranty from Apple if it is purchased through the Apple Student Developer Connection Discount. Does anyone know if this is true? I really don't want to spend an extra $350 on AppleCare off the spot.

Thanks for any help
