quick question: When u first tried to boot up md2 before u edited the partition with erd commander, how did it boot up what exactly happened?
It came up with the Dell Media Direct screen, then started loading the Media Direct OS .. It said Dell Media Direct with gray bars scrolling in the middle like the XP bars do. Then it came up and said something about protected files. I clicked OK and the Media Direct was on the screen. I could play DVD's but there was no sound and the video was really chopy.

After I edited the boot.ini and tried it.. I get the black screen with an OS choice. There was a 10second timer counting down. Then I chose the OS with the NTOSKRNL kernel and it booted up and explorer started.

Just loaded the drivers and changed the boot.ini back reversed the renamed files.

Just a note.. I did NOT have the Media Direct 1.0 files loaded in my normal OS. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

When you exit out of the Media Direct that starts... Does it reboot your machine, or send you back to your desktop? Do you get sound? Can you play DVD's?

I´m having the same issue, how did you solved it?
What can we use instead of ERD Commander?
What If I´m having two or more Partitions?

It should work on a XPS Gen2 shouldn´t it?

1st. Not sure what D.S.R is.
2nd. Mine was doing that too until I installed the nVidia Display drivers. There is also a section in the boot.ini that said /MAXMEM=256. I was thinking about removing this. What that does is limit the ammount of memory that the system sees. I figure, why not let the thing use all of it.

I expect feedback from you!, I'll try it tonight.

Man, another question: Can I use GeForceTony drivers instead DELL's for the video?

Done and done...

I don't see why you can't use the GeForceTony drivers. I used the dell ones just cause you can't game on it, and didn't need all the tweeks that the better drivers could supply. I wanted to keep that partition as close to the Dell version as I could.

That might not be a bad idea.. I know it's a 1.3GB partition at the end of the drive. I believe it has about 800MB of space in-use.

I just don't know where I would stick a 800MB file for people get access to.

I think this is why bittorrent was created. I'd definately be down to seed for a week or so after downloading it, not that I have the fastest connection or anything.

I think Ghosting will actually take longer now that i've installed MD20 three times. Just imagine downloading a 1.5GB ghost image then ghosting the drive.

It really only takes about 30 to 45 minutes if you have all the resources. Like MD2.0 Disc. Drivers on CD. ERD Commander and Partition Magic.

Let me know if you can ghost the partition. Maybe we can set up a VPN or some sort of Fileshare program. Once I get it I can definately share to other peeps for a few weeks. I have a FIOS Connection 5meg down 2meg up.

Sweet action. Downloading now. I'll be interested to see how much better the battery life is with Media Direct. Rep for Pugsly.
