did you ever use an external display while playing the game? If so hook up a display and try again. Check for speed stepping also. I had a similar issue and finally gave up and reinstalled it and it worked fine.

Once you intall it the game never runs off of the disk, it'll check for the disk at the begining of the program, but never again will it check the disk, that's why the install files are like 3 gbs

You're right it doesnt play off the disk but it does need to read from it at the beginning. I think the samsung drive cant read the security program that ea uses. I just got off the phone from dell and they told me since it was an ea games problem they wouldnt exchange the drive.

It's not a problem with the drive, it's a problem with your display settings. Try this out:
You video resolution may be set at something your monitor can't handle, so BF2 automatically crashes on startup. you have to go to this file: C:\Documents and Settings\******\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default\Video.txt and change the resolution down to the default of 800x600. Then do the same thing in C:\Documents and Settings\******\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001\Video.txt Note: ***** is whatever your windows profile name is. After you set it to default resolution, restart the game and change the video settings to whatever you want.

Also, if it is a drive issue, use Virtual Daemon Manager and load a BF2 cd .iso., You'll never have to insert your BF2 CD again.

I have the same problem at the Logo Screen. Like it's hanging at the CD Check.
I have to do this to get it to work: Put in the wrong cd, launch the game, Get the error message saying "put in the cd dummy" put the correct CD in let it auto play click Play BF2. That works about 50% of the time. I do that but after a fresh reboot and it'll work about 75% of the time. Does anyone else know a work around? Does NE know of a firmware upgrade of the samsung DVD burner that comes with the M170. Maybe that'll work. |

i would try replacing the .exe file from one from GameBurnWorld or GameCopyWorld to see if it is your cd/dvd drive.
just make sure to save the original .exe
