1) just follow the directions carefully and meticulously
2) i don't think so, but they are also not responsible if you break something during the install
3) you just need a really small philips head screwdriver
4) hm.. i think it took me 30 mins taking my time

Receieved my D620 about 2 weeks ago. Just started to read this post about the screen quality. Really looking at it is not that bad, but people have been saying it looks kind of gray at some spots. That you should get the Samsung display since its the best of the all of them, even though it still might not look great.

Is all this right?!? Just checked my specs on Dell's support site (support.dell.com) after entering my service tag number and this is what it said:

LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 14.1WXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., SAMSUNG

Does this mean I got the Samsung screen? I'm assuming so since it says Sumsung. This is the best of the screens to get?

I'm sorry for asking, but since this thread is so long, is it only referring to the display of the D620? Was there other problems that was mentioned that I should know about? Other than the screen not being as sharp and bright, think it's pretty good laptop, love the widescreen.

Got mine at a good deal too, through my companies corporate account I got about $650 bucks off my laptop. Mine is almost the fully loaded model. 2.0GHZ Dual Core, 2GB RAM, 80GB 7200RPM HD, 14.1WGXA+, Bluetooth module, 3845 Wireless Module, 6 Cell, Floppy Drive, DVD+-RW Drive, 1907FP Monitor, Port Replicator, Monitor Stand, Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse, 4yr warranty with complete care.

I'm also wondering if this is accurate, using the method by xscorpion. Although I sent my D620 in to repair (right out of the box!) so I never even had a chance to see my LCD in action.

Those directions / pictures on opening the notebook are also quite helpful. It's a good thing I didn't attempt to do it (the tech I talked to wanted me to try and open it up [I think I got connected to India, but that may have been because I wasn't in the system yet]) -- as I was totally doing the wrong thing.

Since I'm in the middle of know where shipping and taxes where pretty high for me so that $650 off was for most of the shipping and taxes. Roughly over $2K for all the stuff I mentioned. I got the 4yr warranty with complete care, not the standard 3yr or less that most people get, so this also had a factor in the price. Other than that I'm pretty happy with the laptop, overall not the best but good for my needs.

I got the LG screen and my D620 came yesterday.

There is leakage of light at the bottom.

It doesnt even compared to a Inspirion 6000 screen which I did compared to side by side.

It seems like there a band of darkness at the top and if you move your head top to bottom, you can see it when you move the screen up/down.

Can I call Dell and request the Samsung screen?

I phoned up dell and said straight up I'm not going to put up with this, If I'm not getting a Samsung screen I'm just going to straight up send the whole thing back and exchange it. They shipped me a screen, its now in the post office for me to pick up, ya its samsung

So how did you guys till it was not a Samsung screen? As I posted earlier just looked on the support site and it says Samsung so I'm assuming it's a Samsung screen. Can you guys posts pics of non Samsung screens so I can compare? For you guys out there for who have the Samsung screen, can you post pics as well?

usually the screen is branded (either on the metal bezel itself, or on a sticker label). if you are still confused, you can use powerstrip to check the manufacturer once the screen is installed...
