Just got my new 5710 about two weeks ago, been playing around with it a bit. First impressions are very good! I only recently learned of Sager and I'm very glad I did. I bought it as a college laptop that I could use for portable gaming (though of course not too high end). I am VERY happy with the results.

I've been playing around with ATI Tray Tools and overclocking the GPU and such, and today I ran 3dMark05 after running some tests through Tray Tools and got a new high score: 3230! This seems pretty good to me. The comp seems to run Oblivion quite nicely and everything else I throw at it, though it has a harder time running the larger textures at high resolutions, but thats ok. I assume this is due to the fact that there is only 128MB of graphical memory.

I was a little worried about battery life when I was ordering, and I almost ordered a 5320 for that reason, but decided the 17" glossy screen was what I wanted most. However, with the modular battery in and the screen turned to low brightness and the wireless off I can get somewhere close to 4 hours at least watching videos and the like. As this is all I really need it to do, I'm quite pleased with the battery life afterall. It could be longer, but for what I'm getting in screen real estate I don't mind the loss.

The only real negative things I have to say have already been said, really. The USB ports being upside down is somewhat annoying, though not really a problem when it comes down to it. I installed the Synaptics touchpad drivers and they seem to work better than those included in the bundle. The biggest complaint is with the sound, really. The speakers are loud enough when playing music, but when playing DVD's and AVI's and such, I can hardly hear anything with sound all the way up. Also, the headphone port just flat out sucks with the hissing, etc. I have done some things to fix it, but I'm ultimately going to end up buying the Creative Audigy PCMCIA card. Aside from those things, this is a great machine!

In the end, I'm VERY happy with this, as I've said multiple times. This is my first new laptop and I'm very much looking forward to using it in college. It has a very nice professional look to it, yet handles games and other things better than most.

BTW, if anyone knows anything about why the sound, when playing movies, is so quiet I would love to know how I might go about loudening that a bit. Also, if anyone knows how to get the circular directional button between the L and R mouse buttons to work, or do anything really, please let me know! I just bought my first laptop and its a 5710 as well. I had some issues when it first arrived trying to work out some things because when the seller did a fresh install before shipping the audio and camera didnt work but I got all that up and running now and I think its a great laptop.

Review looks pretty good. Thats a great 3DMark score with only half the VRAM of the 5320. Looks like your clocks may be at the limit though. I cant get mine any higher than what I've got right now without some artifacting.

As for your sound issue, thats not right. I can hear sounds from mine from any source perfectly. Maybe you should try updating your audio drivers or the codecs in the program you're using.

i think the 5710 uses the same gpu cooler as the 5720 with 7800, so you may be able to push it more than the 5320

He deffenetly might. The 5720 has a double heat pipe and a much larger hunk of copper over the GPU. It'd be interesting to see how high it could clock. If you do plan on doing that though, be careful. We dont want you to burn out our laptop.

I just ran some tests on my 5710 with no overclocking at all. I just have Dynamic switching speed control for the cpu turned on in Notebook Hardware Control and thats it. I wanted to see what the "stock" test scores would be.

3dmark2006 = 599

3dmark2005 = 2589

Im gonna guess thats not to impressive because this is my first experience with such testing but oh well. My main objective was to get an idea of the performance before I upgrade the cpu, gpu, and double the ram. Then I shall test again and see whats what.

Those scores are about right for the stock system.

Ive also noticed that Movies have very low volume. Its annoying and it doesnt seem to make a difference what player you use either.

About the headphone hiss: I dont seem to have that issue.

low volume on 5720..
it is annoying and i tried every audio driver, player.
now i found that media player classic with ffdshow audio decoder.
that makes master volume up to 300%. thats really loud.
so i only watch movies through media player classic.
