You will need to unlock your cards bios in order to overclock. If your not much of a gamer then the need to overclock really is pointless as your just draining more battery and slowly taking life from the system that doesnt need to be. Without overclocking you should still be able to achieve 5.8+ scores on the Vista W.E.I. Atitool will not work unless you have unlocked your videocard bios. You can ONLY use AtiTool ver .27b in Vista.

I'm only getting a 4.7 W.E.I
Quote:
Thanks for the info. What can I do to increase performance outside of the video card? For some reason I am only getting a 4.7 W.E.I. It seems that even with the 7900GS I am still using 48% of my system memory just running Vista which is close to what it ran at with the X1400 which was only 128 dedicated video memory. My CPU is pretty jumpy also. Back and forth between 2% and 90-100% I just pulled this dell system out of the box yesterday and immediately installed the 7900GS. I have installed very little of my software also. Any Ideas?

Uh...maybe someone else will come along and give you the gist...if not I'll be back tomorrow. Anyway, if you aren't interested in gaming, there's no point in oc'ing the card
Edit: Again, I really have to stop leaving these tabs open for hours |

Thanks for the advice. I guess I am SOL on increasing performance. I thought the system had a good configuration, but I guess Vista just bogs it down. I still don't know why my memory is running at 50% after installing the 7900GS. I figured it would utilize way less memory then the X1400 which was sharing it with my system. Oh well. Thanks again

With the 7900GS is it possible to not have it share the system memory? I was getting familiar with the NVIDIA Control Panel and noticed that my system is still sharing 495mb for video. I changed all my setting over for performance versus quality but I guess that would explain why my memory runs at 50% with only vista running. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Performance just reduces image quality allowing you to get more frames per second which is really just more performance as the setting implies. Anyway, I dont have vista so sorry I cannot help you. It doesnt make sense to me either why the system would share memory with the card but whatever. However, if after figuring all this out you still feel the need for more performance then you can try to oc your card. Just to see if that does increase performance at all. Just beware that this will increase stress and temperatures on the card. If it doesnt help you can always put it back to stock provided you either backup your stock bios or find one here.

For the 7950 GTX 512 MB Vid card for a 9400/E1705 is the photo guide available or is it identical to the 7900 GTX? Thanks.

i believe it is the exact same thing. Once you actually get the e1705 opened up it should look fairly simple. I just did it with a 7900 GS single pipe, but I had used the photo guide for the 7950 as a reference and I could see what they were talking about step by step.

Hello guys, I overclocked my 7900gs using the 1.24v bios and it's running at 630/740 stable at the moment on a 130w psu. My question is i've seen lots of ppl running the memory core at 800, but i can't seem to past 740, why is that? everytime i try 750, the computer screen would turn completely red with horizontal lines (meaning the video card crashed, then i have to reboot)... is this really my 7900gs oc limit?
thanks. Last edited by nvgear; 09-10-2007 at 01:32 PM. |

I overclocked my 6800 Go 256 Mb card and right now it is holding off on 369/748 MHz - ? Is that enough or it could be pushed further? . I have Forceware drivers from LaptopVideo2Go - 87.25 -the most reliable for 6800 anyways they say.

Okay, i followed GeForceTony's instructions on deleting the old drivers and installing the new drivers (i'm using 156.65_m6). Upon reboot, ati tool (ver .27b) does not work. What gives? How am I supposed to be able to set the clocks now??
edit: i figured it out. I needed to right-click on it and "run it as administrator". Last edited by Topher1556; 10-26-2007 at 06:10 AM. Reason: solved problem |
