Time for a New Lappy?

Ok, Boys an Girls Howdy, Long time no See. Anywho currently have the 8790 Lappy an getting kinda Sick of the Video an Minor Glitches, so im considering an upg.

1) TO the guys hear that currently own Sagers, Would you buy another one? How was your ownership experience? Mine has been so-so, not enough to 100% discrourage me but not a ringing endorsement,

2) Was/Am Considering going to AMD 64bit Technology, I dont NEED to do this, but I do like to keep my computer as up-to-date as possible. Is there anything else on the horizon I should/Could wait for? No emergency to buy right this second so if somethings coming I have time.

3) Im just starting to Shop so im looking at all manufacturer/Vendors etc. so if u a recommendation please make it.

Thanks in Advance all

1st... Sager, some Dells and any other Clevo clones may be the only ones that will use VISTA at its full potential if and only if the manufacturers release a DX10 compat. GPU for their systems with "upgradable" graphics. In quotes because unless the manufacturer makes a replacement, its not really upgradeable.

CPUs, too many changes on the horizon... Get the best you can afford and accept that something much better will be out in 6 months or so.

Brands... if you go with a boutique I'd get a Sager from PcTorque. Dell for all their problems are still good. I like the higher end Toshibas and Sony unuts myself.

What is the purpose for this unit. Knowning that helps.

if you want 64bit you may want to wait a couple weeks/months for the dual core 64bit proccessors AMD and Intel are coming out with. The Turion X2 will be out probably within the next month and the Intel code name Merom will be out early this fall. THen you will have all your bases covered for processor options.

but its supposedly possible to upgrade your Yonah processor to the Merom when it comes out, so you can upgrade to 64bit later?

I guess you could technically. It's more difficult with some laptops than others but yea, you can always go that route.

That's what I'm doing, I went with the low-end Yonah to save money for Merom when it hits. I read alot before I decided to upgrade and went with the E1505 because I know I'll be able to pop in a Merom chip when they come out and instantly get 30-40% better performance. Should be a pretty significant upgrade. The new Core architecture is pretty impressive, especially coming from Intel.
